Pretty in pink: Urszula & John’s elegant garden wedding

Wedding: 16/06/2012

27-year-old Brisbane bride Urszula Madej admits her love of pink verges on an “obsession.”

But despite infusing her favourite hue into almost everything on her wedding day – from her gown, the bridesmaids’ frocks and her Badgley Mischka shoes – to the bouquets, buttonholes and candy buffet – the final result is a really sweet, almost fairytale-like garden wedding held at the beautifully manicured Brisbane Golf Club.

Having first met John Muir, 28, during a work graduate program (they are both engineers), their courtship began intensely when they moved into a share house with two other friends.

Urszula says, “We used to have these great conversations late into the night and the more I got to know John the more I was attracted to him… we got to know each other very intimately a lot sooner than most couples would and we soon found out just how compatible we were.”

She adds, “Our first date was a bit funny because our rooms were just down the hall from each other. So instead of John picking me up or meeting me at the restaurant, we just met in the hallway between our two rooms!”

Of his gorgeous bride (who he affectionately calls Ula), John says, “She always manages to fill the room with awe in everything that she creates. She has brought a real sense of meaning and purpose into my life that I would not trade for anything.”

So sweet. Congratulations.

Urszula discovered the perfect pale pink bridesmaids’ frocks at Forever New and added a pale pink sash to her strapless wedding gown to complete the look.

Even the hairstyles were influenced by pink… Pink Parlour for Brides creating soft elegant up-dos and pretty makeup for the girls.

John wore a classic black suit from Tony Barlow with a white shirt and silver satin tie… and of course a pink rose boutonniere.

The bridal party were chauffeured by Princess Luxury Classics in these romantic and elegant Vanden Plas Princess limousines.

“John and I had a great time picking out all the lollies together at a huge lolly warehouse,” says Urszula of their DIY lolly buffet themed in pale pink, white and silver.

To stick to their budget, Urszula braved making a wedding cake. “After a lot of research and several practice cakes a few months in advance (which John definitely enjoyed eating!), I felt I was ready to take on the challenge,” says the bride. “It took about two days to bake and decorate but it was so worth it! I was so pleased with how it turned out.”

Urszula’s budget-friendly tip – “Give the DIY thing a go… you’ll probably surprise yourself with what you can do and I think it makes everything more special if you can make it yourself.”
