Kelsi Lawton and Kurt Gaudry grew up just a few doors away from each other and attended the same school, but it wasn’t until a big night at their local pub that the pair actually met.

“Six years have since passed and I am so happy he followed me to my doorstep that night,” Kelsi, 24, says. “What I thought was very creepy was actually a very caring gesture and has led me to now call him my husband.”

Kurt, 27, proposed at the end of a sweaty bike ride to Case Park in the pair’s hometown of Bowen, Queensland, nine months later they returned to the exact same spot for a colourful spring wedding.

The pair were surrounded by 110 friends and family for the outdoor ceremony, held under a beautiful old fig tree on September 19, 2015.

A friend’s minivan then took the newlyweds to Bowen Golf Club for the golf club reception.

A mash potato bar – mashed potato with a choice of toppings served in martini glasses – was a big hit with guests, as was the homemade photo booth that captured plenty of special memories.

Kelsi says the day was a celebration of love like no other.

The avid rugby league fans attached their rings to their partner’s team’s footballs for Kelsi’s nephew to take down the aisle. “It showed our love for the game and, of course, each other!” the bride says.

The couple’s spring wedding theme was spring fling. Mint was the dominant colour with pops of yellow and pink.

“White just isn’t for me,” says Kelsi of her unique gown whose bodice was handmade in watercolour print and attached to the skirt of a gown she purchased online.

In their six years together, the couple have raised a number of fur babies. “Kids in the form of our chickens, RSPCA foster puppies, our dogs… ducks, an adopted cat and our two miniature goats… all who featured in our wedding pics,” Kelsi says.

Kelsi’s two bridesmaids chose their own gowns in keeping with the mint colour scheme. Kurt and his groomsmen had the fabric for their mint gingham shirts ordered from the US and handmade.

“On the day you are surrounded by everyone you love with your one true love in a celebration like no other,” says Kelsi. “If everything doesn’t go perfectly to plan it matters very little.”
