This is a great question and one that we are asked quite often.
The amount of time you will have to take photos on your wedding day depends on quite a few factors- including, whether or not your ceremony and reception are at the same venue, how many different locations you’d like to shoot at and how long the gap is between your ceremony and reception.
To break it down-
For couples having their reception and ceremony at the same venue, 1 hour/ 1.5 hours to take photos. This means that if your reception starts at 5pm, your ceremony will need to be finished by 3:30pm. This will allow plenty of time to get group shots and bridal party shots.
If your reception and ceremony are at different venues, we recommend, on average, 3 hours between ceremony and reception. This 3 hours allows us to factor in travel time between the ceremony, location shoot and reception and also gives us time to do an ample amount of shooting. If you want to do more than one location shoot with a further travel distance, this is something you will have to consider in order to get to your reception on time.
For example, if your ceremony is in Preston, then you want to do a location shoot in the CBD then have your reception in Taylors Lakes, you will have to factor in at least 1 hour travel time and then use the remaining time for shooting.
Once you have picked your ceremony and reception times, considering the shooting time in between, you can then choose a photography package that allows for all of that to be captured, plus getting ready and reception shots.

Thanks for the great question- we know once you get in to the nitty-gritty stage of planning, a whole new bunch of questions are brought up, so we’re more than happy to help.
On your wedding day, the photographer will usually travel in their own vehicle and this is for a number of reasons.
The photographer and their equipment need to stay together at all times and there is generally a lot of it, so it’s the most professional and safe to have the photographer in charge or her/his own equipment rather than trying to pile it in to different cars.
Another one of the main reasons the photographer will travel in their own vehicle is because they need to get to locations before you and your bridal party, in order to set up the shoot and their essential equipment. This is also the way photographers and videographers are able to capture moments such as getting out of the car, walking down the aisle, etc, as they are already there before you are.
All professional photographers will communicate clearly with the wedding car drivers, to ensure they can get the exact shots you want and will work out specific times and locations together.
If you fear that you won’t have shots taken in the car and this is something important to you, this you will be able to discuss this with your photographer in your pre-wedding consultation and make sure the photographer captures what is important to you.
