In one of the first same-sex weddings in Ireland, grooms Dave and Declan put on a unforgettable first dance performance with a medley that included Britney, Michael Jackson, Grease and even the Macarena. The video has received widespread praise online and has to be seen!
Dave And Declan Casey, both 29, were married at Finnstown Castle in Dublin on February 21 of this year – the first same-sex couple to do so at the venue. While the wedding went along beautifully as planned, the grooms kept their plans for their first dance under wraps, and didn’t tell any of the guests what they were about to witness.
‘People kept asking are you doing a first dance.’ Dave told Femail Magazine.
It was a total surprise as we told nobody and kept it a secret.
Songs were a mix starting with the song we walked down the aisle to with our mams A Thousand Years and goes into our favourite musical Grease.
I’m a big Britney fan and Declan’s a big Michael Jackson fan so they had it be in there. We threw in YMCA and Macarena for good fun and ended with our favourite Disney film.
We’ve had an unbelievable reaction and it was a nice happy moment for equality.’
With same sex marriage recently legalised in Ireland in November of last year, Declan and Dave were one of the first couples to get married in the country. The reactions to their first dance video online highlight the overwhelming support for equality throughout the world.
