Dubbed by their friends as like a couple from the 1950s, it’s no surprise that tradition ruled Lisa and Justin’s classic wedding.

“We decided to ensure it was traditional, full of meaning and full of classic touches,” Lisa says.

“Our friends and family dub us as ‘the ’50s couple’ – our style dictates a lot of what we feel. Traditionalism, love and the symbolism of marriage.”

The pair chose St Andrew’s Presbyterian Church in Canberra for their traditional ceremony on February 2, 2019.

“For us the vows, the wording and the way the ceremony was planned was paramount,” the bride says.

With the formalities taken care of, the couple and their guests let their hair down at the Hellenic Club of Canberra.

Lisa says despite the little hiccups that come with any wedding, there’s not much they would change.

“Even with someone breaking their leg during Gangnam Style half way through the reception, the cake not arriving at all and having a groomsman turning up in the wrong coloured suit,” she says with a laugh.

“It’s not how the day turns out, it is how much you love each other and every day after the wedding that matters the most.”

The couple first connected via Facebook. “We spoke for a good two months via Skype, phone and Facebook almost every day,” Lisa says. “Two weeks after we’d met he just knew he needed to come down to Melbourne to meet me and he made sure to meet my parents. He wanted to know all about me and my life.” Soon after, Lisa travelled to Justin’s home in Canberra, deciding to start a new life there.

“Justin proposed to me at Bowen Park in Canberra, near Lake Burley Griffin. It was truly beautiful, it had just gone on summer – so it was warm, but the cool breeze was surrounding us under the canopies of gorgeous green trees,” Lisa recalls.

The couple spent their wedding night together in luxury at the Hyatt Hotel Canberra.

“During the planning process, it brought both my husband and I together more and unified our love. We both knew that no matter the day and no matter how it goes – as long as we got married everything else was secondary,” Lisa says.
