Waruni and Robert’s Sydney Harbour wedding at Pier One

Waruni and Robert’s Sydney wedding was a sophisticated study in balancing heritage with modern style. Held on 16 January 2026, the day seamlessly wove together Sri Lankan traditions and contemporary Western elements against the city’s most iconic waterfront backdrops. For this couple, the goal was a celebration that felt deeply personal and relaxed while honouring the legacy of their families.
The proceedings began at Pier One, where the couple exchanged vows in the Bridge Marquee. With the Sydney Harbour Bridge providing a grand yet intimate canopy, the setting was ideal for their unique ceremony. Rather than hosting two separate events, Waruni and Robert opted for a single, harmonious service that integrated a traditional Sri Lankan Poruwa ceremony with a Western civil service. Guided by both a Sri Lankan celebrant and Jeff Baker, the rituals were intentionally intertwined to symbolise their two cultures coming together as one.
“Our venue was the perfect fit because it had a beautiful, timeless atmosphere that allowed us to create a celebration that honoured both cultures while still feeling modern and true to us,” Waruni says of the Pier One experience. Meaningful details anchored the ceremony, including a silver ceremonial pitcher gifted by Waruni’s late grandmother and a special appearance by the couple’s nine-year-old Maltese, Snowy.
Following the vows, the celebration moved across the water to the Sydney Opera House. Guests enjoyed sunset cocktails and canapés on the forecourt before moving into the Yallamundi Rooms for a seated dinner. The transition between the two iconic venues was designed to be effortless, ensuring guests stayed immersed in the celebratory mood without long gaps. The reception space was styled in a classic palette of white, reflecting the couple’s vision of a timeless, elegant aesthetic.
The menu, curated by Trippas White Group, focused on elevated, modern Australian cuisine using seasonal local ingredients. A particularly sweet highlight was the wedding cake, which was lovingly handmade by the bride’s mother. Reflecting on the day, Waruni credits their coordinator, Tara from Vow and Vision Weddings, for her organised and warm support. For Waruni and Robert, the day was exactly as they envisioned: a perfect blend of culture, family, and the spectacular Sydney Harbour.
