“The style of our wedding was all us; a bit eclectic, romantic and thrown together.”
Katie Austin, 30, and Adam Taylor, 29, met in their homeland of New Zealand in what Katie describes as “under very sad circumstances.” “Adam came into my life the week I had lost my friend in an accident,” she says. “It was such an excruciating and strange time to meet someone new.” But despite finding one another at this less-than-ideal time, the pair were meant to be. ”I connected with him straight away,” smiles Katie. “We were just good together.”
Not long afterward they moved to Australia and, after 10 years together, Adam planned an elaborate proposal. “Adam coaxed me up to Granite Beach in the Noosa National Park to ‘look at the surf,’ recalls Katie. “As we walked up to the clifftops overlooking the bay, I saw cupcakes and a heart-shaped piñata hanging from a tree, he had our favourite song playing in the background and had the ring in his hat. My sister was hiding in the bush filming the whole thing. He nailed it!”
Their eclectic wedding on August 15, 2015 at Graciosa in Bangalow, NSW, included 70 guests from all over the world. “When do you ever get the chance to see everyone together in the same place in such good spirits?” Katie revels.
She says the day was a huge success thanks to their amazing vendors and suppliers, as well as some DIY efforts from the groom. “Adam spent most weekends building bench seating and altars, being very hands-on and doing things ourselves was extremely important to us,” smiles Katie.

The couple exchanged the vows under the breathtaking bamboo arch on the property at Graciosa that overlooks the Byron Bay Hinterland.
The bride’s boho gown was by LOVER the label, and her accessories from Mimco.
“We’re excited for the future, to travel more and live a creative, meaningful life together,” says Katie.
Katie is a textile designer and Adam a furniture maker — skills which came in handy in creating their wedding day.
