Scottish lovebirds George Brown and Glynis Johnstone just clocked up 32 years together, 32 years of engagement, that is.
The couple, both in their late 50s, got engaged in 1980 but never quite got around to marrying.
Glynis, a council worker, told Scotland’s Daily Record, “It’s not really bothered us that we’ve never married.
There have been occasions where I’ve thought to myself I’d like to finally be married, but more important stuff has always turned up.”
In the 32 years since George first popped the question, they’ve been busy bringing up their two daughters, Pameal, 23, and Alexandra, 17, but, despite setting several wedding dates,
“People keep asking when I’m going to get married but we must be doing something right as we’re still together.
We’ve lasted much longer than most marriages so it’s probably the fact we’ve not done it that means we’re still here now.”
That said, neither George nor his fiancee of 32 years, Glynis, think marriage is entirely out of the questions.
George told the Daily Record: “Perhaps when we’re retired we’ll find the time to do it, but we just take each day as it comes.
“If it did happen though, it would certainly be a big one as everyone would want to come. We’ve got two big families and lots of friends so it would be a massive do.”
Glynis added, “I dreamed about getting married when I was a little girl but things happen in life. I’d never say never. Maybe in the future we will do it.”
