It was a proposal fit for the movies – taking place at one of the scenes from popular film The Hangover.
When planning their first overseas holiday in Thailand, Amy de Celis and Dean Mackie, both 28, knew there was one spot they had to visit. “I had said in passing to Dean that I would love to have dinner at the top of Lebua State Tower – it’s the world’s highest open air bar and restaurant and also where they had filmed scenes from The Hangover movie, which Dean and I loved,” explains Amy.
But this bride-to-be didn’t realise Dean had carefully planned to pop the question at the top! “Whilst watching the sunset over the city of Bangkok Dean got down on one knee and proposed,” she explains.
Rewind 10 years, the pair met while working at McDonald’s Restaurant. They quickly began dating and worked hard in their jobs as a paralegal and mechanic to eventually build their own home.
Their emotional wedding on October 11, 2014 took place in the Hunter Valley, NSW. “I am an extremely emotional person and I literally cried with happiness all the way down the aisle as my dad held onto me,” explains Amy. “As soon as I got to the end Dean laughed, pulled me into him and hugged me. It was a beautiful moment.”
Amy found her strapless, princess-style gown from The Bridal Outlet.
Amy’s advice to other brides is “only let the happy tears shed for a little while – seriously woman, pull yourself together,” she laughs.
“If we could, we would do it all over again in a heartbeat,” says Amy.
