City slickers Marina and Carl’s lavish Metropolis Events wedding in Melbourne

Melbourne “city slickers” Marina and Carl’s vision for their Metropolis Events wedding was this: a city view, elegant feel, and to be in the heart of Melbourne.

“There was no other real contender,” says bride Marina.” Metropolis Events, with its high ceilings and New York City loft vibe, was just perfect from the moment we saw it.”

“We also wanted a beautiful autumn day with stunning colours – risky in Melbourne with the crazy weather. But we got exactly what we envisioned in the end.

The couple’s luxury classic wedding was celebrated with 165 loved ones on May 22, 2021, in between lockdowns. Having spent their wedding eve at their respective parents’ homes with their respective wedding squads, an orthodox ceremony in Armadale was the official start to the day. Marina arrived at St John and St Verena Coptic Orthodox Church in a white Rolls Royce from Always Classic Cars.

From there, the University of Melbourne provided a timeless and romantic backdrop for wedding photographs by Lost in Love Photography, who Marina describes as “just amazing – our photos are candid, romantic, and capture every second of our day in the most beautiful way.”

Once at Metropolis Events – Marina describes the vibe with one word: PARTY!

Cocktails and canapes began at 7pm with guests seated at 7:45pm for our reception to start. From there it was one incredible and BIG party! We danced the night away until midnight. Our delicious menu was created by the team at Metropolis – and so was our styling – we worked closely with them to source styling suppliers and make sure our vision came to life perfectly. Entertainment Collective provided the incredible live vocals for our first dance, and a DJ and sax player were organised by Melbourne Entertainment Co.

It was honestly the most perfect day. We would do EVERYTHING the same.

This luxe classic wedding at Metropolis Events was captured beautifully by Lost in Love Photography.

Melbourne bridal designer Oglia-Loro Couture designed Marina’s stunning wedding gown.

My dress was a custom piece by the incredible Sam. With 3D beaded floral lace, detachable detailed sleeves, waist belt and low back, it was just a dream! My dress was everything and more, and I was so pleased with how it turned out.

Marina’s maids graced floor-length satin gowns in dusty pink by Meshki Boutique.

The blush satin dresses tied in perfectly with our reception styling. The low back detail meant that the girls’ dresses somewhat matched my own.

Two floral designers helped contribute to Marina and Carl’s classic romantic wedding aesthetic.

Stasia Fox Events created our fresh floral arrangements – all white and ivory, keeping it very classic. Our table centrepieces where created by Floral Empire Melbourne and were a mix of blush and white open roses for a more fun and relaxed vibe.

• Entree: Handmade potato gnocchi, autumn mushroom ragout, porcini cream, shaved pecorino, rocket leaves [v]
• Mains: Black Angus eye fillet, grilled portabello mushroom, porcini butter, parsnip puree, crimson chard, watercress, merlot jus [gf]
  Free-range chicken supreme, seeded mustard mash, sautéed kaiserfleisch, zucchini & Brussel sprouts, crispy skin, thyme salt [gf]
• Dessert: Belgian chocolate mousse, peanut caramel, peanut butter powder, milk chocolate bubble shard [gf]

This Metropolis Events wedding was not short on entertainment, and Melbourne Entertainment Co ensured the big party vibes.

Entertainment Collective provided our incredible live vocals for our first dance. Madeline created a beautiful rendition of the 90s hit ‘Angel of Mine’, which was just perfection! Entertainment Collective also provided our live acoustics for canapé hour.

A DJ and sax were organised by Melbourne Entertainment Co. DJ Sean who also happens to be an amazing vocalist made all of our music dreams come true, creating a great playlist that had everyone on the dance floor and jumping in with singing and rapping! Our saxophonist Jarrod was also incredible.
