Neli Bridal Designs is a Sydney bridal boutique in the Inner West, specialising in bespoke wedding gowns, couture bridal design, ready-to-wear wedding dresses and expert bridal alterations.
With decades of dressmaking and couture experience, every gown is approached with precision, personalised fitting and careful attention to the original design and construction. We work with a wide range of bridal styles and fabrics, including silk, satin, Mikado, lace, beaded gowns and minimalist designs.
Our bridal alteration services include resizing, reshaping, bodice and corsetry adjustments, bust support, sleeve and strap modifications, hem alterations, bustles, lace and beadwork, zip and internal construction alterations, customisation and restoration of vintage or heirloom gowns. Wherever possible, original stitching, design details and couture construction are carefully preserved.
We also have experience working with luxury and designer wedding gowns, including Steven Khalil, Pronovias, Demetrios and European bridal designs.

Hi, I’m Neli Shahsavandy, founder, bridal designer and dressmaker behind Neli Bridal Designs in Sydney. With decades of experience in dressmaking, couture construction and bridal alterations, I bring both technical expertise and a designer’s eye to every gown. I am facing major decision paralysis. I have a few disparate ideas of what I want, but I have no clue how to actually make a final choice when my tastes are so varied. How many shops does it typically take to find a dress without burning out, and how do you advise decision making when I'm torn between multiple looks?

How far in advance do I actually need to order my wedding dress for a wedding?
I found a dress I love, but the boutique is suggesting I buy now to allow for production and alterations. I still have another appointment in a few weeks to try on a specific style I’ve had my eye on, but I am worried that waiting until the end of the month might be cutting it too close. I need to know if buying nine months out is a genuine requirement or if I am being pushed into a decision earlier than necessary.

Ideally, brides should order their wedding dress 9–12 months before the wedding. This allows enough time for production, fittings and alterations without unnecessary stress. However, shorter timelines may still be possible depending on the gown and availability, so it’s always worth speaking directly with the bridal boutique.
