 It’s Your Day Ceremonies – Ken Hatherley  The People’s Celebrant

In the year 2009 I attended a wedding on a glorious summer's day, in a leafy park, in Balwyn, Victoria.

I admired the celebrant who had an engaging and very relaxed manner. I whispered in my wife's ear "I reckon I could be a celebrant".

Two months later my wife and I were travelling throughout the United Kingdom. I noticed a gentleman painting a water colour of the Salisbury Cathedral in England. I praised his efforts and he replied by saying, "It's better to have tried, than not have tried at all".

It was that moment in time that I decided to pursue a career as a civil celebrant, as I had often wondered what it would be like.

I have always loved meeting people and the sense of the occasion is why I love being a celebrant.
