A holiday romance quickly turned into something more for Queenslanders Kathleen and Tyrone.
The pair met seven years ago at a bar in Cairns. “We connected that night, thanks to a gay man and a martini, but that is maybe a story for later,” laughs Kathleen, 32.
“It is evident that fate certainly played a part in our first meeting as it placed us in the same spot at the same time.”
The relationship blossomed quickly and it was on an anniversary vacation that Tyrone, 30, popped the question.
Kathleen describes their vintage country wedding at the Old Dairy Maleny, in the Sunshine Coast hinterland, as a magical day.
The garden ceremony included live acoustic music and a dove release at the end of proceedings. “One of the flower girls fell in the garden during our vows which everyone had a chuckle,” says Kathleen.
One-hundred-and-two family and friends joined in the celebrations among the beautiful hinterland location.
Kathleen says everyone also pitched in to help create the perfect rustic setting, which included hay bales, a crafted wishing well, timber and plenty of native flowers and greenery.
“It turned out to be the perfect day and a memory I will treasure,” the bride says.

It’s hard to imagine that Kathleen’s beautiful wedding gown was a last-minute buy as her custom-made dress didn’t work out.
Tyrone and his groomsmen wore sharp suits from Roger David.
Kathleen and her bridesmaids carried unique bouquets full of native greenery.
Kathleen still vividly remembers the night she met Tyrone. “We spent the evening chatting and laughing, and by the end of the night, we both knew that we had each met someone special. Over the following months our relationship progressed quickly, and before long, we realised we were falling in love.”
Sprinkles of greenery added to the rustic feel of the reception venue.
