Athina and Angelo first met on Tinder in 2019, choosing to build a strong friendship before officially dating in 2021. When the time came to propose in December 2023, Angelo planned a proposal that caught Athina completely off guard. A week after pulling a mock proposal with an empty earphone case at a park, Angelo repeated the prank while they were taking down their Christmas tree. Athina turned her head away in mild annoyance when he opened the case, assuming it was the same joke. When she looked back, sitting inside was a real diamond ring.

“I was in absolute shock,” Athina says. “He still says I never actually said ‘yes’ out loud, I just reached out my hand so he could put the ring on!”

The couple officially married on 16 May 2026 at St Catherine’s Greek Orthodox Church in Malvern East, followed by a reception at Vogue Ballroom in Burwood.
