“I ignored the call”: Meet the couple who just won $2,500 for their wedding

Planning a wedding comes with a lot of tabs open. One minute you’re casually browsing venues, the next you’re deep in a comparison spiral over chairs, candles, and whether your budget can stretch to signature cocktails and late-night snacks.

Which is why we love being able to hand one lucky couple a little extra wedding magic every few months.This time around? Sydney couple Caitlin and Jakub are our latest winners of the Easy Weddings $2,500 cash giveaway, and we’re obsessed with their story already.

The pair first met back in Year 8, crossing paths “in a few classes” before life pulled them in different directions. Caitlin moved away at the end of Year 10 “due to military life” and the two lost touch for years. Until, as all good modern love stories go, online messages turned into conversations… and conversations turned into something more.

After a year of long distance, Caitlin moved back to Sydney, the couple moved in together, and officially started dating on July 8, 2018. Then came the proposal in the stunning Blue Mountains.

“With sweat dripping down his back, he got on one knee during our hike, and he asked the question, it was beautiful, surrounded by nature with a stream of water flowing nearby.”

The only issue?“My finger was swollen from walking so the ring went back into its case until the end of the walk.”

The couple married at Robertson Public House and Kitchen in April 2026 after planning the entire wedding in just eight months.

“We then decided to punish ourselves and organise everything within 8 months to have our day be 1 year after our engagement,” Caitlin jokes.

When it came to planning, Caitlin says Easy Weddings became her go-to for finding trusted suppliers, including their venue and photography/videography team, RISS Productions.

And then came the winning phone call.

“I was actually at the gym when I got the call, and I ignored it at first because I thought it was spam!” Caitlin says. “During a rest break I listened to the voicemail, and I couldn’t believe it — I’d actually won.”The couple are now planning to use the prize money towards a delayed honeymoon to Japan during Halloween.

“We plan to go to Japan in October!” Caitlin says. “So we can experience Japan / Universal and Disney during HALLOWEEN!”
