How far ahead should you get an event planner?

I know where I want the wedding and the general look but it's not until 2020. How far ahead can I start getting things locked in? I want to be on top of it so the planning doesn't impact my thesis submission.

Congratulations on your engagement! You can book an event planner as early or as late as you wish and it really comes down to what help you want from an event planner. If you want someone to help you plan the whole event from start to finish, I would recommend booking someone as soon as possible. 2020 will be here before we know it and many vendors do book out quickly, especially on popular dates. Alternatively, you may want to start planning some things yourself first and then get an event planner involved to take over from there. Or perhaps you want someone for on the day coordination? In those instances, you can book someone a little down the track when you feel ready.

Having written a thesis myself (in Psychology) I know the last stage does require quite some concentration and focus. It may be a good idea to get a planner on board now to start looking into vendors and suppliers and help you save time while writing your thesis. Or depending on when your submission date is, wait until you have submitted and then indulge fully in wedding planning together with a planner. Good luck with everything!

Congratulations!

It is never too early to book a Wedding Planner. So much work goes into Weddings, but it depends how much you want your Wedding Planner to do. I say the earlier the better! More time means less stress.

It really comes down to how much work you want the planner to do for you. Booking them two years in advance as an on-the-day-coordinator (for example) doesn't necessarily mean that they will spend two years working on your event. In most cases planners have a designated number of hours already calcualted into their fees.

If you have employed a wedding planner to work the event from start to finish - book as early as you can as you will need their input on everything.

If you have an idea of what you want it's never too early to lock in the basics such as your venue and dates! Especially if you are particular about the type of venue you're after or if you have larger guest numbers or if you have a particular photographer in mind who is booked out far in advance. Your planner you bring on board can lock in the basics with you, then you can have a plan with them to check back in around 1 year prior to start planning the actual 'detail' such as flowers, styling etc.

Dear Bride

Congratulations on your engagement. Most Event planners take bookings long before the time. Keep in mind that most Vendors will only open their books 12 months before the time. Don't be stressed for there are so much to plan for a wedding that does not involved the vendors at first, and all depends on your vision, it is always better to start planning as soon as possible. Our company is taking booking already for 2020. Remember if you book a Planner, Designer or Stylist, you will go into a binding contract with a booking deposit, and if you for some reason cancel the wedding or want to change your mind on Planner you will loose the booking deposit, that is the only danger in booking someone very long before the time. Our suggestion is to contact a planner, work on the consept, if you happy with what they offer, get the arrangement started, it will take a lot of stress of you if you know someone professional is looking after everything and you as a team has lots of time.

We will be very happy to be able to be part of your big day. Feel free to contact us for a no obligation free consultation to discuss your ideas and vision.

Kind Regards,

Engela Myburgh
