About

In 2005 I became a full-time wedding entertainer and 17 years later, I still love what I do! I treat every single event as a unique, individual experience. What this means is that while I have had the privilege of being at literally hundreds of weddings, I've never, ever done YOURS! While I have experience, knowledge and a fair degree of skill, at the forefront of my mind is that this is YOUR day and I'm all ears when it comes to listening to and delivering what my clients want.

I am an accredited member of The DJ Alliance Of Australia.

Absolutely! My MC’ing style is friendly, informative and welcoming.
And no, I don’t sound like one of The Wiggles…

I have Public Liability Insurance which covers me for claims up to 20 million dollars in the case of accidental damage or injury.

I am licensed with the Phonographic Performance Company of Australia (PPCA) which allows the performance of copyrighted sound recordings by licensed DJs. My licence number is: 329632.
It is illegal for any DJ to play music in public in Australia without a PPCA licence.

Please contact me to arrange for a ‘no-strings attached’ meeting to discuss your ideas and requirements at your home or workplace.
Weekday evenings are preferred, though weekends during the day can be arranged in most cases.

Arrival at the venue is approximately 2 hours prior to the start of your event. This allows me to set up my equipment and perform a light & sound check to make sure that everything is 101% perfect before the arrival of you and your guests.

Yes. I have a dedicated system especially for ceremony music. Very discreet and it sounds awesome

Definitely. I will visit you at your home or office prior to you making a decision on your entertainment requirements.
There is no charge or obligation for this. Meetings are best arranged for weekday evenings or weekends during the day dependent on mutual availability.

I also went to considerable time, effort and expense to ensure that my equipment would fit in to the most sophisticated and elegant venue.

My mixer is a Pioneer DDJ-SX running Serato DJ through a system dedicated MacBook Air.
Two 1600w Mackie SRM550 speakers provide crisp, clear music which can be supplemented with two 650w DB Technologies speakers for larger venues if required.
A Shure SM-58 cordless microphone is provided free of additional charge.
Finally, I use modern, sophisticated DMX controlled lighting to ensure that the music matches the light show and vice-versa.
I believe that lighting effects should compliment the music – not overpower it.

Absolutely!

Over the course of a five hour event , there are approximately 80 songs played.
I would ask that you provide a list of at least 20 to 30 of your favourite bands, artists or songs – this allows me to get a ‘feel’ for your musical preferences.
Additionally, your guest’s requests are welcomed and encouraged at your event.

Any performer’s worst nightmare is equipment failure. I carry a spare mixer, CD player and amplifier to each and every event.
I hope that the above answers some of the more commonly asked questions.
If not, please don’t hesitate to get in touch.

Would 100% recommend Bruce as DJ, MC or both at a wedding. Worth every cent, as he made the event the amazing night that it was. He ran every aspect of the night, there was never a dull moment, but at the same time never felt rushed or too much was packed in. A unique ability to get every guest at the wedding involved from the teenagers to my elderly Grandparents. Multiple guests shared this was the best wedding they’d ever been to and attributed this to Bruce – we agree!

How to really experience a wedding band/DJ before booking

Hi there. Can we come and listen to a band or DJ at another wedding or event before we decide to book?

Bruce Harrison DJ/MC

Attending someone's private wedding probably isn't the best way to get a feel for a band or a DJ. Firstly, you'll be experiencing what their specific clients have asked for. An example of this is tomorrow's wedding my couple have asked for absolutley NO group dances (Nutbush. Macarena etc). The next night - the bride and groom want all that stuff! Every wedding has it's own vibe and personalit and they're very rarely , if ever, the same.

Ask yourself - is anything about your wedding unique, indivdual,... YOU?

If so, then meet up with your entertainment supplier and get a feel for what they're about and, more importantly, let them know what YOU want.

Talk about whether they do this as a hobby or a living?

Will background music be played at converstional levels?

How many breaks does the band take and do they offer MC services?

There's a lot to consider and often it's your entertainment that can make or break your reception.

Research reviews and, most importantly, make sure that they 'fit' with what your dream is.

Good luck!

Should I hire a band or a DJ?

Bruce Harrison DJ/MC

This is a regularly asked question and there's no easy 'black or white' answer. When thinking about a band or a DJ, it's important to consider a few things first. How big is your venue? Would a band 'overpower' the setting? What's the demographic of your guests? Would your band be able to cater to all age groups? What about background music?

So much to think about!

A band can bring an ambience, an atmosphere to your dance floor that any DJ would probably find difficult to replicate - that's the nature of live music performance. However, a band can only play what is in their repertoire and may not be open to the idea of taking  song requests.

A DJ has access to original recordings of thousands of songs and *should* encourage your guests to ask for their favourite songs.

Additionally, most bands take breaks throughout the reception, whist a DJ can perform a 2 or 3 hour set without a break.

My advice is to meet up, ask for demos (of bands) and ensure that they understand the atmosphere that you want to create.

Hope this helps!

a dj or band ? if dj are there any that also MC?

Bruce Harrison DJ/MC

Hi Cristiana

So many factors need to be taken into account when deciding wheter to go for a band or a DJ.

In a nutshell, bands can only play what they have rehearsed, will take breaks between sets and generally don't do requests.

DJs have almost limitless access to original versions of music though they may find it difficult to replicate that 'live vibe' that bands produce.

Either way, do your homework and if drawn to a band, either ask for a CD sample or an opportunity (other than a wedding) to see them perform. If it's a DJ, look at reviews, feedback, Google rankings etc.

Some DJs won't touch a microphone to MC and that's also the case with some bands.

Very few, in my experience, manage to get the balance right!

Hope this helps...
