Do you think the goal of couples in 2018 is to have a wedding or to have a marriage?

Debra Pedretti Celebrant

My many years of experience  have convinced me that although the intention of  most couples is to work toward a successful, long term  marriage  the focus is often on the excitement of the big day, the event itself  and of course the  celebration that follows. For this reason I always work with my couples  to ensure  that it is a wonderful day  which includes everyone important in their lives  leading to long term love and support in the future. Eloping without witnesses?

My partner and I are thinking of eloping but just with our children and no witnesses. Is this possible?

Debra Pedretti Celebrant

Great question as this arises with many couples. Unfortunately  unless you  apply for exceptional  permission to marry  early you must comply with the guidelines within Australia which state that a Notice of Intention to Marry  document must be signed and witnessed  one month prior to your scheduled wedding date. You will also require two witnesses over the age of 18 yrs. As your  Celebrant I would be only too happy to assist . Debra Pedretti

Does the celebrant have to do the whole "how they met" story?

I feel like that might be awkward for us. We are a super stong and stable couple now, but when we met we still had a lot of growing up to do (we were teenagers, and broke each others hearts.) We had a huge falling out and reconnected later. It was very messy and all of our fam and friends know that. Do we have to go into that when our life is so beautiful NOW, and has been for years now?

Debra Pedretti Celebrant

It's lovely for the couple and the guests  to know a little about  you but although your Celebrant  might  inquire about your lives you have entire control of the content of the Ceremony.Sometimes the inclusion of some lighter moments  adds to the enjoyment  but if your current happiness is  to be the focus  you would make that very clear to your Celebrant who will be only too happy to adhere to your wishes.
