Tia and Adam’s rustic wedding featuring Puffing Billy

Tia and Adam’s story began in a classic setting with a unique twist: Adam was Tia’s English tutor during her final year of school. The pair remained close friends long after graduation, eventually transitioning from study partners to life partners. Their engagement was just as memorable, occurring at the Byron Bay lighthouse during a sunrise hike. As dolphins and turtles swam in the water below, Adam dropped to one knee to propose as the first light hit the ocean.
Growing up in the hills, the couple knew they wanted to return to their roots for a wedding that felt both nostalgic and personal. They envisioned a day with a rustic, vintage feel, beginning with a ceremony at All Saints Anglican Church in Selby. The intimate stone church provided a meaningful backdrop where the couple exchanged vows to the sound of a traditional organ before being showered in petals as the church bells rang. The true highlight for their 100 guests was the surprise journey on the iconic Puffing Billy steam train. “The train itself was absolutely incredible,” Tia says. “It had that rustic vintage vibe. All of the staff had dressed up in that old fashioned vibe and it was just the coolest thing ever”. The locomotive served as more than just transport, acting as a moving cocktail hour where the couple could wander through the carriages to greet their loved ones.
The festivities continued at the Nobelius Siding Packing Shed, where the train pulled up directly outside the veranda. This blank canvas venue allowed the couple the flexibility to DIY the space with vintage furniture and candles to achieve their desired rustic style. “Food is one of our passions,” Tia explains, noting that having the freedom to choose their own menu was essential to avoid a traditional sit-down meal. The Grease & Kitchen delivered a relaxed feast of barbecue meats and spanakopita, followed by the couple’s favourite treats from the American Doughnut Kitchen.
The success of the day was anchored by a dedicated team of suppliers who brought the vision to life. Photographer Mohamad Farhad from Right Click Moments made the couple feel at ease while capturing the day, while Jasmine from Happily Ever After Events ensured the DIY logistics ran perfectly. “Jasmine was an absolute godsend,” Tia says. “She made sure that every little detail that I wanted was executed perfectly so I could just enjoy myself”. From Tia’s Eternal Bridal gown and Rutherford Jewellers jewellery to Adam’s custom Suit Concierge tailoring, every element felt cohesive and personal.
