Sparks fly at Lana and Peter’s Cargo Hall wedding

By day, their Cargo Hall wedding at Melbourne’s South Wharf was all city river views – and by night – twinkling ambient magic.

Lana and Peter swiped right to find each other – for their Cargo Hall wedding in Melbourne’s South Wharf – they swiped right to family, food, and a rocking good time.

“The most important thing was providing a space for all of our guests to feel comfortable, well-fed, and entertained, but mostly to have the best, memorable night!” says Lana who found Peter on Tinder with a nudge from her brother-in-law.

“Our family comes from all over Melbourne so we wanted something central to the CBD that would accommodate all of our guests. We wanted an elegant yet modern vibe and Cargo Hall suited this perfectly.”

The couple exchanged vows at St Mary’s Williamstown on March 7, 2021. “The intimate little bluestone building was the perfect location to share this special occasion with our closest family and friends. I was so lucky to have my local parish priest officiate our ceremony.”

Post-ceremony, guests split off to Williamstown’s main strip and South Wharf’s bar precinct for pre-party bevs; while Lana and Peter lapped up the 28-degree sunshine with wedding party photos at Williamstown Botanic Gardens.

Arriving at Cargo Hall’s boardwalk for cocktail hour, around 130 revellers had a taste of Showtime Events’ small bites and espresso martinis, while inside, a warm golden glow was waiting to welcome them.

Our venue at Cargo Hall was the perfect mix of elegant, modern and rustic vibes all in one. Peter loved the rustic wooden flooring and wall art, and I instantly fell in love with the diversity of the place. We could do so little or so much and still create the room of our dreams!

What appealed to us the most was that during the day we got this gorgeous river view; and come dark, once in the room, it was transformed into this ambience where our guests walked into pure magic!

We honestly could not fault the service from Showtime from start to end and that was one of the biggest deciding factors on Cargo Hall…they made us feel so comfortable and we placed our trust in them from the beginning.

We purchased our dresses from Love Affair on Sydney Road, Brunswick. The ladies there were incredible! I had a short timeline to work with given the covid lockdown and they made it happen! I also had three very differently-shaped girls and the beauty of this dress shop is that they made to measure so all of my girls felt comfortable.

“We wanted a church that was simple and intimate but allowed us to put our own personal touch on things.”

We loved the grounds that our church was on and the gorgeous grassed area that was used to take beautiful family shots. We also loved the large area at the front for our wedding car to park and be in our photos, too. We had a white Chrysler with jet doors that suited our wedding well.

“I couldn’t go past a statement train!”

My dress was designed and made by the beautiful Brides of Armadale. Suzie and I spent hours together sketching a dress that would make me feel amazing! I loved every bit of it and couldn’t go past a statement train. I wanted a combination of nude and ivory as well as stunning modern lace that would complement the intricate hand-beading on the bodice.

My hair stylist was incredible at staying until we left the house to ensure every hair was in place for photos in the morning! I opted for a beautiful elegant Hollywood wave with a side part, and my bridesmaids had a beautiful full-wave up-ponytail.

“Showtime Events’ food was incredible!”

• Our guests enjoyed a selection of fine canapes along with sparkling, reds and white wines during canapé hour. They were also welcomed with caramel espresso martinis on arrival.
• As they arrived at their tables, fresh Italian bread and antipasto platters were waiting for them.
• For entree, we had roasted butternut pumpkin and sage risotto, sauteed mushrooms, and shaved grana Padano cheese.
• For main we alternated a charred eye fillet, smoked mushroom puree, and potato and thyme jus with a crispy skin pork belly, sauteed kale, and green apple jus. We had seasonal greens and roasted rosemary potatoes as sides.
• For dessert, we had a matcha sponge, black sesame ice cream, and mango and chilli salsa.

“Our band, Salacious, absolutely made our night!”

We wanted a band, however, we were really specific on wanting a modern, fun and interactive band that would get on the dancefloor with us and our guests. They seriously got the dancefloor going and had everyone partying all night long!
