The photographer questions other suppliers have listed here are solid, so I won't repeat them. The one I'd push hardest on is editing: who actually does it, and where. Ask whether your photos and video are edited in-house by the people who shot your day, or sent offshore to a bulk editing service. It matters more than people realise, because the editing is where your day gets its consistency and feel. We edit everything ourselves, so the colour and style you saw in our portfolio is exactly what you'll get back. Also ask to see a couple of full galleries shot at the same time of day and time of year as your wedding, not just the highlight reels.

A few practical ones worth adding: what's the backup plan if your shooter is sick or has a gear failure on the day, how long is the turnaround for your gallery, and roughly how the day runs for photos given your timeline. That last one is the big one in Queensland. Our summer light is brutally harsh in the middle of the day and the sun sets early in winter, so your portrait window is dictated by the season more than anything. A good photographer should be helping you build your run sheet around the light, not just turning up to whatever you've already locked in.

On the florist, I can only speak to what we see on the day rather than how they run their business, but from the documenting side it's genuinely useful. Ask whether your bouquet and the ceremony or reception florals will be delivered and set before we start shooting, because flowers photograph best when they're fresh and not wilting in the heat. In a Queensland summer that's a real consideration. It's also worth letting your florist know your colour palette so it sits well in the photos, and asking whether anything from the ceremony, like an arch or aisle arrangements, gets repurposed at the reception, since that changes how and when we capture those details.

Last thing: once you've booked both of us, a quick heads up to your photographer about your floral colours and any standout installations means we can plan to feature them properly. Happy to chat through any of this if it helps.

Look at the photographers website. Make sure they have large selections from each particular wedding. Even ask to see a whole wedding. Ask what options are available regarding 2nd photographers. Ask if they customise their packages to suit you and the amount of hours you'll need. Mostly just love the style they shoot. My advice is to choose a photographer because you love the pics they take. Then work out the details with them after that.

First and most importantly you need to ask who will be shooting on your wedding day and ask to see their portfolio. It is very important you see their work and know that it is to your style and taste.

Also so you want to make sure you know who will be coming on the day to capture your wedding and that their personality fits with you.

for your photographer if they have one or two cameras, if there is one or two photographers coming, how much experience have they had, anything you really want to know about and i tell all my clients to bomb away if they so they feel more comfortable with me.

your florist, how far in advance they make them, how often are they getting client for weddings, where they may be supplied from, how long the flowers last. It really just depends on each individual and what they need and want in their weddings. hope this helps.

It is great to meet with potential photographers, and not just chat over email, as you spend so much time together on the day.  You could ask:
Who will be the main photographer?
View a full wedding gallery to show a complete wedding, not just their top images selected for a website gallery
Have they shot at your venue before, and if not, will they walk through will you before your day
What type of equipment is used, and if they have experience with flash - incase of bad lighting
Deposits required and the payment process

Make a list and take it when you meet with them.  Couples I have booked often have met with a couple of photographers, and say they have booked me because they not only love my work but are really looking forward to working with me, which is so lovely.  Book someone willing to invest sometime in you!

I am speaking from a photographer's point of view, I will leave flowers to florists.

I hope that most of your immediate questions are answered oun our website or Easy Wedding  Storefront. From there the photographer needs to know how your wedding will run, what time of day, how many guests and most of all what you want to do with the images.  From here the photographer can work with you to make sure you get the imagery you want. No two weddings are the same and each couple and their family will have different ideas about images both in terms of the elements they want covered and the final uses you envisage.

Do you want images of just the wedding itself or the Bride and Groom preparing as well?

Do you want images right to the end of the reception or just up to a chosen point?

Do you want styled images taken on the days before or after the wedding itself?

Aftewards some couples want multiple albums for different family members and large prints while others feel that an album and a few prints are all they need in their family.

Of course you may change some of these things as you discuss possibilities with your photographer but starting the discussion with an idea of what you want helps design a package that will work for you.

This may be similar for a florist that more than asking questions of them think about what you want so you can answer their questions. If you have an idea of a budget you want to stick close tolet us know so we can try and accomodate that as well.

1. Will the owner of the company be shooting my wedding?
2. Can I see recent work, in full not just some sample on your website
3. Price; Do you guys offer packages or hourly rates? What's included, and whats the difference in price for?
4. What's so different about your service than other vendors I'm looking at?
5. We have X as our vision for our wedding day, does your brand cater to that?

I'm not sure about florists but some things to ask you photographer or a potential photographer would be:

  • Are you available on my wedding date?
  • What is included in the package; prints, travel, multiple photographers?
  • How many final images am I likely to receive?
  • What attire will you and your assistant be wearing?
  • How many weddings have you photographed?
  • Do you take images in RAW? (if they don't they are not a true professional)
  • Will the images all be colour corrected and retouched? (Make sure you like their retouching style)
  • Can I see a gallery of your images? (You could even ask to see a full wedding gallery instead of just the best images from each wedding that they will have displayed on their storefront and website)
  • Do you have/Can I see your wedding contract?
  • Will you stay longer if I need you to on the day and what is the extra costs with that?
  • Can I give you a list of specific shots we would like?
  • What type of equipment do you use?
  • Will you back up the images?
  • What information do you need from me before the wedding day? (your photographer will really love answering this one, the more we know your vision the better we are at bringing it to life)

Then just ask them anything else you would like to know. Your photographer should be more than happy to answer your questions, because they will want to make your wedding day as perfect as they can!
