Should wedding photographers have two cameras?

McKay Wedding Photography

I use two cameras as it means I can cover a better range of focal length from wide angle to quite tight. But a single camera and lens can be just as effective so it depends a lot on the shooting style of the photographer.

A similar question would be "should a photographer always have a backup camera?" The answer is yes! Cameras and lenses can fail and you can never know when, so back up gear is essential.

can you cancel your wedding photographer?

For example, if the wedding was cancelled or postponed, could you cancel?

McKay Wedding Photography

It will depend on your contract and what you arranged with your photographer. Usually a photographer will take a booking payment to secure your date and this would not be refundable as you paid this to keep them from booking another couple.

How many weddings do you book per weekend?

McKay Wedding Photography

It's usually just one wedding on a weekend but at the busiest time of year it can be two weddings, and very occasionally three!

do i specifically have to tell my photographer what shots i want, or should i trust them

ive read heaps of forums with brides saying their photographer missed the 'dress hanging up shot' etc. to avoid this happening to me, should i be making a list of shots i want for my photographer?

McKay Wedding Photography

If the photographer is experienced they should get all the main shots, especially details like your wedding dress.

If you look at their albums you'll see what they usually capture and I'm sure these shots would be the norm for your wedding too.

But have a chat to them and ask if it would be helpful for you to provide some must have photos.

whats the difference between cheap photographers and expensive ones?

like is it experience or talent or does it depend on if they are full time? I'm looking to spend between $2000-2500

McKay Wedding Photography

There can be a big difference and it usually comes done to a combination of experience & talent.

Photographers just starting out will usually have a lower price than established photographers. If you're starting out you may not have the best equipment nor the experience to handle any situation. So to hire some with less experience is to take more risk....but we all have to start somewhere!

Talent is the other determinant of price - like in any industry the better someone is the more they will charge!

I think your budget is good - you should be able to find someone with moderate experience and talent. Or if you can spend around $3000-3500 you'll certainly get a better & more experienced photographer.
