There is usually a deposit at the time of booking and then full amount due approximately one month prior to the big day. This is normal practice in the wedding industry.
I've been in the wedding industry for well over a decade and the payment terms haven't changed. If you have any doubts about pre paying, just make sure you read reviews and you are booking an experienced service provider.
