Her business name is accurate. Mel is the best! She has a beautiful personality and devastating skill with the camera. I adore her! Melissa is an absolute professional at what she does and it shines through. After having an engagement shoot with her we just HAD to book her for our wedding, and she provided such peace of mind in the lead-up to the big day. She went out of her way to give us her advice before the day, explained how the day would go on her end, and made sure we knew exactly what to expect. I could not have been any happier with the results of our wedding photos! She made us feel so at ease throughout the entire day and we had so much fun throughout all of the photos. Honestly, we cannot thank her enough for the beautiful memories that we now get to keep and look back on forever. Mel (along with her 2nd photographer Mallie) was able to capture a huge array of fantastic photos of our wedding day, despite the additional challenges of wind and an outdoor setting as well as the whims of our overwhelmed toddler. Leading up to the big day she was organised and helped guide us through putting together shot lists and plans, and was happy to give her own advise when requested based on her own experience and the many wedding she has shot, and to let us take the lead when we have something special in mind. On the day she was happy to engage with the venue staff and other professionals to coordinate and make sure she was there to get pictures at every step of the way, while being as unintrusive as possible. The photos have turned out great, with a good mix of serious, playful, artistic, and candid pictures of us and our normally picture shy group of friends and family. I'd be happy to recommend A Shot Above the Rest to anyone looking for a photographer for their wedding or other event.
