OVERVIEW

I’m a story teller, who just happens to take photos. In another life I could have been a painter, or a writer. But Im forever grateful to have a camera in my hands!

Hello Lovers!
Im Catherine, the owner and photographer behind Laconic Photographic.

I’m a story teller, who just happens to take photos. In another life I could have been a painter, or a writer. But Im forever grateful to have a camera in my hands!
I'm a new kid on the block in Canberra, but have been shooting for over a decade now. I'm so excited to get to know the ACT, and NSW area, and take photos of some wonderful couples!

My style of photography is what used to be known as photojournalistic, but nowadays is reffed too as lifestyle, or candid.
I take a step back, and capture as much of the action as naturally as possible. Think of me as a fly on the wall while you get ready, and paparazzi during your formal photos.
This doesn’t mean Im totally hands off - Ill happily chat with you from behind the camera, and get you laughing, as well as guiding you when needed.
I’ll get you moving into your photos, and interacting with each other. Giving you prompts, that will both help you feel more at ease in front of the camera, and create more natural looking images.

Before your wedding day, I love to get to know you, and find out a bit about your personalities. Then Ill use that on your wedding day to get you laughing with your love, smiling with your bridal party, and having a generally amazing time!
I’ll also use this for your engagement session, to help find a location that will both give amazing images, but also have some significance to you both.

I truely believe all celebrations deserve to be captured - no mater how big or small. I love court house and micro weddings, just as much as bigger, or more traditional celebrations.

My Courthouse / Elopement packages start at $1,800, and are specifically designed for smaller ceremonies.

If you love my work, and are considering me for your wedding day, then get in touch! Id love to buy you a coffee, or tea, and sit and chat about how I can help capture your wedding.

Wedding Packages include -

- A slideshow set to music, showing highlights of your day. This is delivered within 48 hours of your day so you can enjoy it while you wait for the remaining images.
- Catch ups to help figure out the details of the day, and chat about timelines, or ideas. As many of these as you need to feel comfortable, and either face-to-face, over the phone, or on Zoom.
- Images delivered via a secure online album, ready to be downloaded, or to share with family and friends.
- My larger packages include an engagement session - so we I can get a feel for how you interact with each other, and you have a chance to be in front of the camera.

Cant wait to chat soon xx

FAQ

It comes with time! The more you're in front of the camera the more comfortable you become.

BUT! As you're photographer its my job to make sure you LOOK as natural in front of the camera as possible, even if you feel a bit awkward.
I do this by giving you prompts, not poses. I wont tell you to stand and smile, because thats not natural. Instead I'll ask you to dance with your love, or walk towards the camera. I'll get you talking to each other, to help you feel at ease. And I'll tell you the worst dad jokes, to get you both laughing.

I also offer engagement sessions with every package, so you can get a feel for being in front of the camera, and know what to expect on the day :)

I never give out RAW photos.
To me, this is the same as a professional baker giving out a cake mix, rather than baking it to perfection, icing it, and presenting it to you ready to eat.
Although I never do much to you photos in terms of editing, the small things I do to them make a HUGE effect on the story your images tell, and the way they all look. Making sure your lighting looks the same throughout the day (even if it changed a lot), slight changes to the colours, and a slight crop will change the feel of your photos a lot.

This is the million dollar question...

I always recommend looking at photos first. Do you like their work? Do the colours suit what you're looking for? Are they your ‘vibe’? What they show on their website will be what you can expect from them.
Then have a read through their website, and social media. You can get a feel for who they are, how they will interact with you, and what other clients have to say about them. Then reach out, and arrange to meet up!
Personally - I know not every photographer is for every couple. And I know the best way to figure that out is to have a coffee together, chat, talk about your day, and what YOU want for your wedding photography.
Remember - this person will be with you for a good chuck of your wedding day. You have to trust them, and like them enough to want to spend a day with them!

I’d be happy to buy you a coffee (or tea, or Matcha, or soda) and chat if your considering me for your wedding!

There are NO rules these days.
You can have as many, or as few people in your wedding party as you want - if you want one at all! Both even, and odd numbered bridal parties look great in your photos, and if your worried about it looking uneven at the alter, you can just have your Maid/Man of Honour and Best Man/Woman stand next to you, and have the rest of the bridal party sitting in the first or second row.
The biggest thing to remember is you want people that you love, who will support you, and help you through the day, while also being ready to party. That could be by grabbing you a coffee in the morning, or making sure you remember to eat. By being trusted to hold (and not lose) the rings, or making sure you have tissues at the alter. Find people who bring you joy, and build you up, so that you can enjoy your day with little stress.

July 2023

We booked Catherine for a micro wedding package (4 hours). She was fun to work with for our wedding. Easy contact, very informative and professional and just loved her approach on the day. Received sneak peak photos 24hours after the Wedding. Beautiful eye for detail.

Thank you so much Charlotte! It was such a wonderful day to be a part of - so much love! I genuinely loved how relaxed, and easy the day felt, just full of spending time with loved ones and celebrating you and Ben! xx

What happens if our photographer is sick on the day?

If we find our dream photographer, what happens if they're sick on the day and can't photograph our wedding? Would they send a replacement or how does that work?

Laconic Photographic

I think everyone has covered it below really well.

Photographers know theres no re-dos of wedding days. We either push through, and make sure we cover the day, even if we are unwell (I know photographers who have shot weddings while having food poisoning). OR we make sure someone covers the day for us, normally with a similar style to our own.

The most important thing is to talk to potential photographers about what the back up plan is before booking, because every one will be slightly different.
And make sure the plan is outlined in your contract with whoever you book, so you know it’s agreed on, and you won’t have to question it down the line :)
