FAQ

That is completely normal. I like to keep things relaxed and I have a workflow for families and couples that ensures I capture the connection and love without stressing you or making you feel uncomfortable. The wedding day I’ll be unobtrusive and documenting what is happening. Most of the time you probably won’t know I’m there.

The time that best suits you suits me too - it's entirely up to you!

I prefer to shoot sunrise and sunset for the best light but if you want a session in the middle of the day we can work with that.

Canberra and surrounding areas are awesome!  I love that there are so many places to choose from : around the lake, in the gardens or national parks, creeks, lane-ways, cafes, in quiet forests or your home.  I’m sure you get the idea that I do whatever I can, to make you comfortable in the location that is special to you.

My turnaround time is usually within six weeks of your wedding day.  While it isn't always guaranteed due to the busy seasons, school commitments with our daughter and sports coaching, I do try and get them back to you quicker than the turnaround time.

100% recommend! We had Steve and Sharon from Blue Ginger Photography shoot our wedding and it was one of the best decisions we made for our wedding. Steve went out of his way to find out our styles and what types of photos we were looking for and on the day made us and everyone else at our wedding feel completely at ease. He gave us direction and encouragement when needed but he was also just a part of the wedding and captured the raw and special moments as they unfolded. I was one of those brides that preferred much more natural and candid photos and the results are absolutely AMAZING!!! Steve captured all the important moments and more without us even noticing he was taking photos. Having Blue ginger at your wedding is more like inviting a friend with a camera...only the quality of the photos is exceptional. Thankyou

Steve made the day easy and run smoothly. He really helped us to get comfortable in front of the camera. Steve and Sharon were so lovely and really felt like part of our day and were not afraid to get amongst it to get the best photos. The photos are stunning they are everything and more that we had hoped for. Five stars does not cut it on how much we enjoyed having Steve and Sharon on our special day and the beautiful photos we have got. They are the people we hope to have capture all our special moments.

Steve and Sharon, it was such a pleasure having you both at our wedding. You captured our special moments so beautifully and you were so helpful and supportive on the day. If the preview photos are a snapshot (no pun intended 😜) of what’s to come, we absolutely can’t wait to see the finished product. You work so well together, and we really enjoyed being able to share a laugh with you both and just have some fun. Noting how much time we spent together on the day; it was so lovely feeling like we were sharing the moments with friends vs strangers and I think that shows in the photos. Steve, you have made the process so easy. You communicated clearly throughout, and we were never left wondering what was happening next. We valued your creativity, honesty, passion and professionalism – even in the heat! From meeting you, we knew you were the photographer we wanted, and we can't recommend you highly enough!!

How far will wedding photographers travel and how do travel fees work?

We're considering a destination wedding but wondering if we find the photographer we love, will they travel, and how do they charge for that?

Blue Ginger Photography

We love a good road trip as much as a great love story!

As per the other responses - we cost up the flights / petrol, accommodation etc if it's significant travel.  The costs are added to the quote after discussing with the couple.

If the wedding is up to 3 or 4 hours from where we're based in Canberra - we don't charge a travel fee!

What are the main shots we need to get at our wedding?

Can you advise a common shot list for our wedding? I want to make sure nothing is missed. First kiss, first dance, etc. What are some of the shots you don't even think about? Thank you!

Blue Ginger Photography

Hi,

You put an incredible amount of work into planning your wedding and want it captured in the best way. You can trust us to capture the best images possible but it's always a great idea to map out the shots you want.  I encourage my couples to create a shot list to make sure nobody wakes up the next day realising that the shot of Aunt Mary wasn’t taken.

I use these shots as a general outline and then and build on it during the day including the must have shots that my couples want!

Do I need two photographers for my wedding?

Hi there. My ceremony is at church in the morning and my reception is at 5pm in the city. Am I better off getting two separate photographers - one for getting ready + ceremony and one for the reception - to save on my budget? Or how does that work?

Blue Ginger Photography

Great question - I have a second shooter or second photographer to work alongside me to capture different angles, separate locations and assist with the logistics that come with wedding photography.

Here’s a few of my favourite reasons to have a second photographer:

  • There are lots of times that having photos from different angles comes in handy!  During the ceremony and first look, Sharon can focus on the groom’s reaction, and I can capture the bride’s reaction.  During the ceremony, I might be getting an epic wider shot from the back of the church and Sharon is taking more intimate, emotional images from the front.
  • I have two cameras in a case so I always have a backup camera at a wedding.  But a second photographer provides a backup for me.  So if something epic happens while I’ve gone to grab a drink, change batteries or storage cards, you’ve still got coverage!
  • With another set of hands I can get some more creative images.  A second shooter can hold lights at the right angles, help hang the wedding dress in places I couldn’t reach on my own because they help hold the chair or ladder I’m standing on.  One of my absolute favourite things they help me with is making the veil fly in photos as though the wind captured it. After they toss the veil in the air they literally run as fast as they can to get out of frame before it falls!

Another consideration is budget.  The question of having one or two photographers is a simple question of balancing what you can afford with what you desire.  A second photographer for a lot of couples is truly a luxury.  At Blue Ginger Photography I pride myself on providing great value and service and that is why we include a second photographer at no extra cost.  Winning all round!
