Absolutely!!

Your wedding day should be a reflection of you and your partner, and that includes the music. If you love unconventional or "unpopular" music, don't hesitate to play it! The right DJ will work with you to curate a playlist that reflects your tastes and keeps your guests engaged.

At Melbourne Entertainment Company, we specialise in personalising your music selection. Whether it's niche genres, deep cuts, or tracks that are off the beaten path, we ensure the atmosphere is just right. Our DJs are experts at reading the crowd and seamlessly blending your favourite tunes with the vibe of the night.

Upon booking with us you'll receive a DJ request form to fill out asking for:
- Top 10 Must-Play Songs
- Additional Songs

- Spotify Playlists

- DO NOT PLAY songs (no thanks Nutbush...)

So, if you're into something unique, feel free to share your playlist with your DJ — they'll be excited to mix your choices and keep the energy flowing.

Hi there,

We would say absolutely! And there are a few different scenarios/outlooks on this.

1.

If you're requesting "unpopular" music for your ceremony, your chosen musician may have the ability to "reimagine" the piece to suit the atmosphere. For example, classic early 20's emo favourites might not be considered a popular choice of music for a wedding ceremony, however, it was requested by a couple we worked with and we reimagined those works to suit the day and guests LOVED our take on these songs.

2.

If you're wanting what might be considered "unpopular" music during your reception which your DJ will play, the beauty of it being your wedding is, well, just that! It's your day! If it represents you and your partner and the love you share, and it brings you joy you would hope the people in your circle love to see you happy and enjoying yourself!

Absolutely! It’s your day, and your music should reflect what you love, popular or not. One of the great things about a string quartet is that we can take any song and turn it into a beautiful elegant arrangement. Even the most unexpected choices can sound incredibly romantic with strings. It’s such a beautiful way to make your wedding music feel truly personal.

It really is a delicate dance to create a wedding playlist that feels both personal and universally fun.

The goal is to get that perfect mix - a blend of your favorite "unpopular" songs that hold a special meaning to you and the more popular tracks that will get everyone out on the dance floor. We can be strategic about it, using your special songs for key moments like the first dance or the cake cutting, and saving the party anthems for later in the evening.

This way, you get the best of both worlds: a day that feels uniquely yours and a party that's sensational for everyone.

Heck yes! Just have a think about how much youwant the msuic to be for you and how much for the guests as a whole, but if they are into the same music as you it's even easier. I've had great times playing ska, 80s indie, metal, country and hard techno for people who wanted it.

Sure, no problem! Everyone has different tastes and after-all, it's your special day!

The wedding is about the couple, not necessarily the entire crowd. Their tastes, memories, and personalities should shine through every detail, including the music. If a song is meaningful to them, even if it’s obscure or unconventional, it deserves a place in the celebration.

But What About the Guests? You can balance the playlist and include the couple’s favorites while mixing in more familiar tunes to keep the energy up. It may be more appropriate to play the less popular tracks during dinner or quieter moments, and save crowd-pleasers for dancing.

A good DJ can frame the moment, introducing a song with a story like “This was their first road trip song!” can make guests feel more connected.

Yes of course! If the music is special to you and your partner, I'd be happy to play it.
