Absolutely! This is your wedding, and you should make it special for you! That being said, you want a balance of popular music to keep your guests entertianed throughout the day. Our artists have extensive repertoires that cover all different decades and styles, so there is something for everyone.

When you book with SCR Music, you can select your top 10 songs from the duo or bands repertoire that you LOVE and must hear at your wedding. You also get to specify the 10 you HATE the most, for them to leave out of your repetoire, or even just and entire artists catalogue. Around that, they will use their professional judgement and play the right songs at the right time throughout the whole day, whether it's pre-ceremony, canapes or at your reception.

Our DJ's work in the same way, however you can request way more than just 10 favourites. You can make a playlist of HEAPS of songs you love. You can either get them to play exclusively from that list or just allow them to use it as a guide (recommended). On top of that, you can specify MUST PLAY and MUST NOT PLAY songs, along with your preferred styles/genres to focus on.

On top of all this, our Acoustic Duo's will LEARN ANYTHING you request for 4 special song requests. This generally includes your Aisle, Signing, Exit (Ceremony) and First Dance (Reception), where we encourage you choose something unique to you both as a couple. Usually the best advice is to think about some songs that hold a special meaning to you both, maybe the first song that played when you met or a song from the first concert you went to together. Alternatively, you can always request some ideas on what songs work well and then we can make some suggestions based on our extensive experience.

All of that being said, we are super flexible and work around you to organise your special day. If we can make your day unique to YOU as a couple, then we've done our job and everyone leaves happy.

Heck yes, your wedding is all about you and the music you want to hear should absolutely be incorporated into the repertoire. We have learned, adapted and performed obscure songs like a Tartar 80's hit, a Persian classic ballad, Irish tunes from a specific tiny village, even jazz songs in Mandarin. We recommend sending through your special requests at least 2 weeks before your date to give adequate time to prepare. That said, it is a good idea to also allow space for classic numbers that everyone else will also enjoy. Striking the right balance is important and a seasoned professional knows how to get this right.

of course, dance floor music doesn't all have to be popular music or club bangers. nicher genres can also be played e.g. tame impala, dom dolla, fisher, chris lake, or whoever, just discuss with the DJ!

Absolutely! Whatever music you want to listen to at your wedding, I can and will play for your regardless of how popular or not that music is with the general population. If you send me a list of songs you want played at your wedding, it will be downloaded and ready to play on the big day.

Absolutely! It’s your wedding, so if there are songs or genres you love, I’ll make sure they’re included. What I usually recommend is we mix them in at the right moments — for example, during dinner, cocktail hour, or later in the night when the vibe is more relaxed. That way, you get to hear the music you love, and we also keep the dance floor full for your guests.

Absolutely!!

Your wedding day should be a reflection of you and your partner, and that includes the music. If you love unconventional or "unpopular" music, don't hesitate to play it! The right DJ will work with you to curate a playlist that reflects your tastes and keeps your guests engaged.

At Melbourne Entertainment Company, we specialise in personalising your music selection. Whether it's niche genres, deep cuts, or tracks that are off the beaten path, we ensure the atmosphere is just right. Our DJs are experts at reading the crowd and seamlessly blending your favourite tunes with the vibe of the night.

Upon booking with us you'll receive a DJ request form to fill out asking for:
- Top 10 Must-Play Songs
- Additional Songs

- Spotify Playlists

- DO NOT PLAY songs (no thanks Nutbush...)

So, if you're into something unique, feel free to share your playlist with your DJ — they'll be excited to mix your choices and keep the energy flowing.

Hi there,

We would say absolutely! And there are a few different scenarios/outlooks on this.

1.

If you're requesting "unpopular" music for your ceremony, your chosen musician may have the ability to "reimagine" the piece to suit the atmosphere. For example, classic early 20's emo favourites might not be considered a popular choice of music for a wedding ceremony, however, it was requested by a couple we worked with and we reimagined those works to suit the day and guests LOVED our take on these songs.

2.

If you're wanting what might be considered "unpopular" music during your reception which your DJ will play, the beauty of it being your wedding is, well, just that! It's your day! If it represents you and your partner and the love you share, and it brings you joy you would hope the people in your circle love to see you happy and enjoying yourself!

Of course, we're happy to cater for any songs to what is preffered. Both acoustically and the original versions during the Ceremony/Reception.

Absolutely! It’s your day, and your music should reflect what you love, popular or not. One of the great things about a string quartet is that we can take any song and turn it into a beautiful elegant arrangement. Even the most unexpected choices can sound incredibly romantic with strings. It’s such a beautiful way to make your wedding music feel truly personal.

It really is a delicate dance to create a wedding playlist that feels both personal and universally fun.

The goal is to get that perfect mix - a blend of your favorite "unpopular" songs that hold a special meaning to you and the more popular tracks that will get everyone out on the dance floor. We can be strategic about it, using your special songs for key moments like the first dance or the cake cutting, and saving the party anthems for later in the evening.

This way, you get the best of both worlds: a day that feels uniquely yours and a party that's sensational for everyone.
