what do you think is more entertaining? a band or a dj

i want everyone on the dancefloor all night

I run Timeless Wedding Entertainment and we supply both live acts and DJ's to events all over Australia. I think that there is no easy answer to this question as there are so many factors to consider. Of course a brilliant 5 piece band is going to create an amazing vibe as you will have multiple performers all giving 100% to entertain you and your guests. Undoubtedly this will also cost quite a lot more than a DJ however, and will take up a fair bit of room in the area that you are holding your reception in. If you've got a big room with plenty of space and a reasonable budget then go all out and book a fantastic live act. If you are holding a smaller wedding with limited room then you may find that a DJ is simply more suited to your style of celebration.

We often book a combination Live/DJ package with a Soloist providing the music at the Ceremony, followed by a Duo to entertain during the Canapes. The DJ then takes over for the Reception side of things and often acts as the MC as well. This gives couples a great mix for their big day.

how much does a live musician at your ceremony usually cost?

There are many factors that influence the price of a Live Act for your Ceremony, including;

  • Location of your event
  • Specific gig requirement (power availability, set up etc)
  • Style of Musician
  • Number of Musicians
  • Length of performance

There are usually different options available for your Ceremony so most musicians can tailor a package that suits your needs and budget. These might include going with a String Trio rather than a Quartet, or picking an Acoustic Soloist instead of a Duo. We often provide a DJ to organise the Music and PA at the Ceremony and this can also be a less expensive option.

do i have to provide my dj with a playlist or does he just play his usual wedding song list?

It's always appreciated when you provide your DJ with a small playlist for both the Dinner and Dancing sections of your wedding. This helps them get a clearer idea of exactly what you are after and then they can expand on your choices based on the dance floor response and requests from your guests.

how do i start the dancing at my wedding if im not having a first dance?

Traditionally the Bridal Waltz happens straight after the Cutting Of The Cake and is the final official formality of your celebration. General guest dancing will usually begin right after the Waltz is completed and then the party will kick on until your event finishes. Even if you and the Groom are not having a "First Dance" as such, your DJ can always invite you and your guests to the dance floor once the cake is cut, and then off you go. If you are hoping to get a couple of solid and fun filled hours of dancing at your Reception then it's also always a big help if both you and the Groom spend a fair bit of time on the dance floor with your guests.
