Old-school R&B and hip hop, cocktail hour, and commercial house, all real sets recorded from recent events, not a 60-second showreel. Most couples come to the discovery call already knowing which one is closest to their night, which makes the whole conversation faster.
A nightclub crowd arrives wanting to dance. A wedding crowd arrives wanting to talk to people they haven't seen in five years, and the dancefloor has to be earned. That means slower builds, reading the room between formalities, and knowing when to let a moment breathe instead of filling it. Fifteen plus years across both kinds of rooms is where that instinct comes from.
It works by sequencing, not compromise. Early reception belongs to the older guests while they're still there, that's where the Motown, disco and classics live. As the night moves on and the room thins out to the dancefloor crowd, the energy shifts with it. Nobody gets a watered-down version of their taste; they just get it at different points in the night.
Quite a lot, actually. Without a seated meal there's no natural sequence to hang the night on, so pacing has to be built deliberately, lifting and easing the energy so guests keep circulating rather than sitting down. Cocktail-format weddings are some of my favourite rooms to run, but they need a music plan, not a playlist. This is taken care of as part of the music planning sessions.
It's not a crisis, it's a signal. Usually it means the last three songs were slightly too far ahead of where the room actually was. I would pull back to something familiar, rebuild from the middle of the room outwards, and push forward again. The couples who notice a dancefloor "dying" are usually watching a DJ who isn't.
No, but it changes the approach. Riverside, rooftop and garden venues across Brisbane and the Gold Coast often have limits, and pushing against them is how a night gets shut down early. I liaise with your venue beforehand and work with their requiresments so the sound is mixed for the room you actually have controlled volume with the low end managed properly still feels full on a dancefloor.
That's entirely your call. Some couples want an open floor where guests can request anything. Others want a strict do-not-play list enforced. Whatever you decide, we respect it without making guests feel awkward. Your music plan is locked in during our planning sessions before the day, so we know exactly what you want and what you don't.
Less than you'd think. There's an online music planning portal for your songs, must-plays and do-not-plays, plus dedicated planning sessions depending on your package, two with Signature, three with Full Day. You don't need to build a full playlist; you need to tell me what you love, what you hate, and what has to happen at what moment. I'll take care of the rest.
In 15+ years we've never missed an event. In the unlikely scenario something truly unexpected happens, we will source a professional Brisbane wedding DJ who can step in as backup at short notice. Your day goes ahead either way.
Yes, we're based in Brisbane and cover all of Southeast Queensland, including the Gold Coast, Sunshine Coast and the hinterland. A transparent travel fee applies for venues more than one hour from Brisbane CBD, always quoted upfront before you commit. For destinations outside this area, just ask and we'll prepare a custom quote based on distance and accommodation requirements.
Yes! We carry $20 million public liability insurance with current certificate of currency available on request. Most Brisbane wedding venues require this before allowing vendors to set up, and we provide it directly to your venue when needed.
I handle all basic music-related announcements and coordinate with your venue team on timings. For Full MC hosting this is a separate role and can be arranged with a seperate MC as an add-on rather than bundled in. I'd rather point you to the right person than half-do a job that shapes the whole night.
