Tape VS Clip-In Hair Extensions: Which is better for the big day

Looking to add length to my hair (currently medium length with thick hair) and wondering which is better, tape or clip in extensions. Also the price ranges of both and some recommended salons/companies. Thanks!

Clip in extensions are temporary extension and great for your big day. You can feel at ease after the wedding going on your honeymoon without stressing about looking after your tape ins or more permanent extensions. With permanent extensions you need home care products as well as look after them as your hair grows out. When you hair grows normally after 3 months you will need to do the regrowth again as your length of hair will weigh down and you will start to malt if you do not go back to your hairdresser to redo roots.

Its important to get full coverage the whole way around the head so you look voluminous and full with no gaps.

You can choose to use hair extensions the same length as your own hair to add thickness and fill out your ends, or, to add length, you will needs closer to a full head of extensions, which will give you volume, thickness and length all in one.

Clip in pieces can work really well if you can be matched in hair colour, as The Powder Room has a variety of hair pieces in general blonde, brown and dark brown colours.  We also have then in different thicknesses and designs.

Tape are great if you want long hair in the lead up and for the honeymoon too. Clip in maybe beter if you just want them for the day and you can hire them form some suppliers.

WE love FRONIS hairpieces for custome made clip in outfits, great quality if you wish to buy some for yourself. made by a hairdresser who reallyunderstands what clients need.

It all depends on what look you would like to achieve, you budget, maintenance and your existing hair type. Tapes give a more natural and less bulky look in styled down looks because they sit flatter but in a hair up, if they aren't positioned correctly the tapes buckle on the head, can be quite uncomfortable and can make the style look lumpy. They tend to cost more than clip ins and require someone to remove them after 6-8 weeks. Clip ins or halos are a bit more versitile but they frustrate me a bit being a stylist because they are made for a larger head meaning they are over sized for the clients head making it hard to hide them sometimes. Best to sit down with your stylist and find out the best solution for the style you want and what they recommend.

Good Luck : )

I would definatly recommend clip in extensions because if you have it up or partly up it can be clipped in where the hairstylist needs them with tape they can't be moved it's alot more expensive and as long as you buy good quality clip ins they will look just as good if not better. Hi Chloe!

I prefer to work with clip in Extensions for all my hairstyling work! As you can place them where you need them and also the direction that you need for them to work for a certain style! Sometimes tape extensions are hard to hide in particular upstyles and they are sometimes put in fixed positions too so you need to consider that! I recommend Zala Clip in Extensions, as they are easy to work with, great quality hair and have good hair clips! They are also easy to colour match too ! Their website is https://www.zalacliphairextensions.com.au Their prices start from about $140 and they have fast shipping too! x

Hello ChloeStark

Congratulations on your engagement!

As professional hair stylists, we always prefer clip-ins. This is because we have the flexibility of where to place the extensions depending on the style you are after. However, it will be best to discuss this with your hair stylist at your trial to make sure you choose the approrpiate extensions for that specific hair style.

All the best!

Hi Chloe,

personally I prefer the clip in hair extensions for wedding styling. This is because you can place them wherever you like to help suit the style the best. Sometime with tape extensions you can see the tape because of where they have been placed which means you really have to create the style around them rather than the other way around.

Good luck with your decision x

I always recommend a Halo extension or clip ins which are great for all down styles including vintage waves as well as most upstyles.

Prices range between $200-500+ And can be bought online or you can contact the following companies who are well known for their quality.

Sitting Pretty Halo Extensions https://www.sittingprettyhalohair.com/ (approx. $350+ for a good halo extension)

Carla Lawson Extensions https://carlalawson.com/ (they do permanent extensions but are amazing, however not cheap by any means)

Bellami Hair https://www.bellamihair.com/collections ($150+ depending on style required)

Myself and my team are always happy to work with extensions for a special day.

I hope this helps you find the perfect hair extension for your special day.

Miranda.
