How much is an average cost for makeup?

Hi there, I've been quoted around $900 for make up + eyelashes for myself and two bridesmaids and hair for us all plus a blow dry for my mum +$50 travel fee. Another bride has told me that is an outrageous price, so now I'm unsure. Is this an average price for hair and make up or would that be paying above average? Thanks!

Hi there

You can get a wide variety of prices when it comes to hair and makeup for weddings.

At Niche Hair & Beauty we offer packages for 3 or more in your bridal party. Which you have. To give you an idea of what we charge for hair and makeup together. There is a travel charge if you are out of our area too, most places charge this. So try and get someone close to you to avoid extra charges.

Bride -$220

bridesmaids -$200 each

mother of bride/groom $120

You are best to do your research and look at their previous work to give you an idea of what they do and whether you like their style. Hope this helps.

good luck and all the best for a happy wedding day

You usually do get what you pay for with your hair & makeup and most Stylist's who charge a higher rate, generally are warranted in doing so.

The expression "quality is remembered long after price is forgotten" holds very true with your Bridal hair & makeup as if you pay a lower rate and make a choice that ultimately doesn't deliver what you want or what you need, you will be reminded every time you look at your photographs.

Stylist's who charge a lower rate often do so because they book multiple weddings each day to supplement the gap in their pricing or may use lower end products.

Ultimately, your price point is completely your choice.  Personally, I believe that the price your paying is reasonable for a full service if your Stylist's are of the quality that warrants that price point.

I hope this helps you.

Have a truly beautiful wedding day.

Hello there,

The price a makeup artist charges will basically depend on their experience and reputation.  A bridal makeup can cost anything from $50 per person (this is your Avon lady down the road) to $500 per person (this is the celebrity makeup artist).

We are a multi-award winning business and as a price guide we currently charge:

$280 (incl. GST) for the bride's makeup and hair

$210 (incl. GST) for a bridesmaid or mother's makeup and hair

which you will find to be very reasonable for the quality of service we provide and the experience we have.

Hi,

I would say it isn't unreasonable. Without knowing specifics of how far they are traveling, with us it would be about $800 for 3 hair and makeup + your mum's blowdry and travel only applies out of metro area. I personally think price is secondary to finding a stylist you really feel comfortable with to do an amazing job for you. Good luck with your planning.

Some MUA / Hair Stylists charge more as they are offering a full day service, as in accompanying you right through to the wedding reception for continuous touch ups.

I would be asking if that was part of their service & quote.

We unfortunately do not offer that service. Our Hair & Makeup Package is $160pp (Lashes additional).

Travel fee does not apply in the metropolitan area. Although parking fee's may be incurred for Hotels etc.

Hope this Helps.

Hi there,

I don't think thats an outrageous quote and definitely not above average. Hopefully you are getting an artist with experience and love their work.

Its in the ball park of my fees and I have been doing this for 20 years.

Best of luck!

Theee girls makeup and four girls hair.   I would charge $80 each per makeup and $80 each formhair (bridal style) and $70 for blow dry.  I would charge a travel fee if outside metropolitan area or on the outer region of the city from my location.  Hope this helps
