Choosing your wedding flowers is such an exciting part of the planning process, and at Hart & Flowers, we're passionate about helping you create floral magic that truly reflects your unique style. Let's dive into some dos, don'ts, and delightful choices for your Australian wedding:

Dos:

  • Do Embrace Seasonal Blooms: Australia boasts an incredible array of native and cultivated flowers throughout the year. Choosing seasonal blooms ensures freshness, vibrancy, and often better value. For example, during spring, you can enjoy stunning peonies, sweet peas, and ranunculus, while summer offers beautiful natives like waratahs and gum blossoms.
  • Do Consider Your Venue and Theme: Your flowers should complement your venue and overall wedding theme. A rustic barn wedding might call for wildflowers and textural foliage, while a sophisticated city venue might suit elegant roses and orchids.
  • Do Prioritize Your Personal Style: This is your wedding! Don't be afraid to express your personality through your flowers. Whether you love classic elegance, bohemian chic, or modern minimalism, let your florist know your vision.
  • Do Think About Fragrance: Fragrance can create a beautiful ambiance. Consider incorporating scented flowers like garden roses, sweetpeas (my personal favourite), or jasmine. But be mindful of strong scents if you or your guests have allergies.
  • Do Consult with a Professional Florist: At Hart & Flowers, we believe in creating a personalised experience. We'll work closely with you to understand your vision, offer expert advice, and bring your floral dreams to life. We take into account the australian climate, and what flowers will last best, and what will thrive in the heat.

Don'ts:

  • Don't Overlook Your Budget: Flowers can be a significant part of your wedding budget. Be upfront with your florist about your budget, and they can suggest creative ways to achieve your desired look without breaking the bank.
  • Don't Choose Flowers Solely Based on Trends: While trends can be inspiring, focus on choosing flowers you genuinely love. Timeless blooms will ensure your wedding photos look beautiful for years to come.
  • Don't Forget About the Weather: Australia's climate can be unpredictable. Discuss weather-resistant flower options with your florist, especially for outdoor weddings. For example, some delicate flowers may wilt quickly in the heat.
  • Don't Leave it to the Last Minute: Booking your florist early is essential, especially during peak wedding season. This allows ample time for consultations, planning, and sourcing the perfect blooms.

Some things to think about when orgainising your florals is

  1. Do Personalise  Your Flowers
Choose flowers that reflect your personality, the season, and the overall style of your wedding. Whether you opt for classic roses or something more
  2. Do Plan for the Season
Choose flowers that are in season for your wedding date. They’ll be more affordable, accessible, and vibrant. We recommend in the hotter months hyrdrangers are actually not a great flower to use . This is because they are prone to wiliting quite quickly due to the heat .
  3. Do Consider Your Venue
Take the venue’s colors and atmosphere into account when selecting flowers. You want your arrangements to complement the surroundings. If your venue is rustic, consider wildflowers or greenery-heavy bouquets; for a formal setting, choose elegant blooms like orchids
  4. Do Use Flowers in Your Color Palette
Make sure the flowers match or complement your wedding color scheme. You can mix and match different shades or go for a monochromatic look for an elegant effect.

We hope this info helps : )

Don't attempt to do your own flowers. You may think it's easy and simple but flowers are growing things.

They can look fresh but aren't, even from a market. They can die within hours, needed to be hydrated in different ways,

are very temperamental with different climates. Most need to be purchased 5 days prior, open naturally and kept in a cool room.

Don't get your flowers delivered too early on the day. The longer they are in a coolroom at the right temp, the longer you will have them

on the day/ night. Don't choose your florist on price. I know that everyone has a budget, but cheapest is definitely not always best.

Find a supplier who has experience, will talk to you not just email, look at their real wedding work, and you feel comfortable with.

This is one of the biggest days of your life, your photos are your memories, your flowers are so important, choose wisely.

Do's , take the time to look at a lot of themes to see what you love. There are many trends but you are best to have what suits

your personality. Do think about the season. If you are set on a certain flower or colour make sure it's available. Do allow enough

money for your dream to come to life. When the drinks are drunk and the food is eaten, there is your memories, the photos and

videos and what's in them. Do have the best time, choose what you love , choose the vendors with excitement to work with you !

? Do use professional-grade stands, arches, hoops, and plinths designed to support fresh flowers and water. These ensure stability against the weight, wind, uneven ground and allow for more fuller designs.

? Don’t rely on cheap online options meant for balloons or faux flowers. Many of these can’t handle the weight of real flowers and water, leading to design limitations or, worse, collapse on your big day.
