Ideally you should secure your wedding florist ASAP to make sure your date is available and not already booked. Dates can be booked up to 12 months ahead, so get in early! A lead time of at least 3-4 months for planning and designing would be beneficial. That way there is plenty of time to discuss designs and accomodate for changes, and to prepare a proper proposal.

Hope this helps!

You should book your wedding florist as soon as you booked your venue and have an idea about number of guests and bridal party.

You should book your wedding florist 8 to 12 months in advance, especially if your wedding falls during peak season (typically spring through early fall or around holidays). High-demand florists can get booked up quickly, so the earlier you secure your date, the better—particularly if you have a specific style or vendor in mind.

Here’s a quick timeline guide:

  • 12+ months out: Ideal for popular venues and florists.
  • 8–10 months out: Still a good window to find availability and plan design.
  • 6 months or less: Possible, but options may be more limited—especially for custom or high-end arrangements.

Somewhere around 6 months is a good place to start. If you dont have this much time until the wedding then there are some things to keep in mind. Most florists need to give about 6 weeks notice to their growers and wholesalers to ensure colours and varieties required. It can take a couple of weeks or more for a quote to be sent and for everything to be decided and finalised prior to this. You will need to have chosen your colour scheme, theme and dresses so we are able to match colours and theme. If you require vases or other decorations we will need time to source these also.

My advise is to start planning flowers around 6 months but if you are already past that time it can be done in 2 - 3 months but you will need to be quick to make choices and willing to compromise.

I would aim for 4 to 12 months in oganiaing flowers for your wedding day, as some wedding florist are booked out a year in advance, I recomend 5 months at least so the florist can effectively oganise with farmers wholesale supplies your flowers and other details you require of your florist

at least 12-18 months in advance, particulalry if your wedding date is at a popular time of year.  Most "have to have' vendors get snapped up quite early.  If flowers are an important part of you day/vibe, then the sooner the better.

Ideally, you should start looking into florists and discussing your vision for the overall aesthetic for your florals around 6 to 12 months before your wedding date.

In the early stages of decision making, and once initial details have been discussed, we can provide accurate quotes for the key components of your florals, and booking early secures your date and a florists services for your wedding, particulary if they are a highly sought after florist.

Some factors that play into this would also be the time of year, such as peak wedding seasons (Spring and Autumn) dates can book up quickly.

The seasonal availability of certain flowers; if you have your heart set on any specific varieties for example, the ability to have those conversations well in advance is recommended to establish if they will be available on your wedding date, or if alternative suggestions can be made.

The complexity of your wedding and the overall logistics for a larger scale event would also be a factor, the more elaborate the designs and extensive the florals are, the more they would benefit from an earlier start to the planning.

Ultimately if you allow yourself the 6-12 month window you have the flexibility to make sure the florist you choose is the right fit. It's a much more pleasant process if you can take your time making the decision. Florals have such a huge impact on the look and feel of your day, and if the flowers are a really important part of that for you, then it shouldn't be a last minute decision.

Hope this was helpful.
