Get Expert AdviceWhat length veil should I get?
Hello. I've bought my wedding dress and am now considering a veil. Are there any guidelines for which veil length typically goes with dress style? Or is it more about hair length/style? Would love some tips.
DJTD Bridal
Thankyou so much for the question!
Picking a veil length can be as simple or as complex as you like since in the end it is a matter of personal choice.
Having said that, here are a couple of tips that might help.
1. The simplest of all answers is long with long and short with short.
2. Having said no1, this really has many 'ifs and buts' attached from which you can choose.
3. As you've noted, hair length and style will be one factor that may affect your choice but so too, the style of your wedding (50's /traditional/ beach/ art deco etc), as well as the dress style, whether or not it is embellished, where the embellishments are (ie the focal points on the dress), whether or not the veil itself is just an accessory or actually a special part of your bridal outfit in its own right. For example a very long but simple veil can look extremely stunning on a short modern dress just as a short embellished veil can go very well with a long ornate dress that has a low back for example. Also things like your jewellery, face shape, body shape /dress shape, height, whether or not you would like to wear the veil during the reception and whether you will have a change of outfit. There are numerous considerations and it is the job of your designer to help you reach a decision about what would feel best for you.
The best thing is to show a photo of your dress to the designer or supplier of your veil and discuss the options with them and if possible get multiple opinions depending on how much you would like to match your veil to your outfit. There are a number of designers / suppliers who won't charge to have a chat about it [here included ;) :) ]
I hope that has at least provided a little extra help.
What do I need to think about when choosing my wedding accessories?
Can't decide whether I want a veil or a headpiece
DJTD Bridal
Good afternoon and Happy New Year!
There are a number of things to consider with accessories, including the theme /style of your wedding; how formal / casual it will be; have you decided on your jewellery yet and whether or not you intend to change out of your wedding dress into a reception dress. Also are you going for minimalist or full on OTT luxury?
A veil tends to be a more traditional look but goes just as beautifully, especially a long veil, with a more contemporary short dress. This particular look is also a stunning sophisticated minimalist look that still has the feel of luxury because of the length of the veil especially if paired with simple but bold statement earrings.
As previously noted, you can wear both a veil and a headpiece or hairpins even if you wanted to. For example if you had a bun, you could tuck the veil in under your bun and put a comb with florals on the front of your bun or hairpins all through it. This would work very well with a dress that is all floral lace and / or beaded or embroidered.
Also keep in mind whether or not you have always wanted to wear a veil or whether you just "feel you should". The most important thing is that you look back on your day and feel that you did what you wanted not what others expect of you, unless meeting others expectations will actually make you happy.
The best thing to do is start from your dress and then speak to your accessories designer who should be happy to go through all of these things with you and may be able to customise your accessories to suit your personal needs. ps happy to discuss further, just message me! ??
