If you mean changing of the spouse surname to the married name when you marry then your marriage record  serves as the changes, you need do nothing more.

The marriage certificate that you receive on the day of your wedding is a ceremonial one.  If you want to change your surname with banks, passport, licence etc then you will need the official certificate from Births Deaths and Marriages.  Celebrants can apply for your certificate when they register your marriage.  It usually takes much less time to receive your certificate this way and you can begin to make the change of your surname sooner.

Hello there, one you are legally married your Celebrant has 14 days to send through the official paperwork to BDM in the state that you were married in. They will take anything up to 4 weeks, again depending on the State to register your Marriage. You can then apply on line to BDM for an Official Marriage Certificate which again can take up to 4 weeks depending on the State and some States will even let the Celebrant apply on your behalf at the time they lodge your paperwork. Once you receive your Official Marriage Certificate you can then start to change your name. Your Celebrant should be able to step you through the process.

Hope this helps.

Once the officai paperwork has been processed by BDM you can then apply for a certified copy of your certificate. Use this to present to banks etc.  Getting several copies done and certified by a JP will help the process.

You will need to obtain an official marriage certificate from Births, Deaths and Marriages. I often apply for this on the bride and groom's behalf when I send off their paperwork.

Once you've received this, it's a good idea to make several copies and have them certified by a JP as many organisations require a certified copy.

Once the paperwork received by BDM & then married couple can apply for their Official certificate.

I usually include the form in my marriage package given to the couple after the ceremony or moreover I sent the paperwork away with NOIM & other paperwork & let them know previously how much it will cost the couple.

Hello, that is one of the first questions many brides ask me about.  If you are looking to officially change your name after the wedding then there are a couple of steps that you need to take.

Firstly, apply for an *Official Marriage Certificate from BDM as this will show the official registration of your wedding and all the other necessary details rquired for your name change.

Then once you have obtained this, make several photocopies and get them certified by a JP or other person authorised to certify them.  When you go to change your name on your licence, passport, Medicare etc you will then be able to provide them with a certified copy they can attach to your records.

I usually get my couples to complete the application* and forward that on for them as part of my service.

Regards

Your Celebrant should be able to guide you through this process.

You can go on line to Birth, Deaths and Marriages and print off your application for your official Marriage Certificate or your Celebrant can send in the form for you.

Once you have the official certificate have a few copies made and signed by a Justice of the Peace. You can then start notifiying banks, Superanuation etc your change of name
