OVERVIEW

Hi, I’m Philip.

I truly believe your wedding ceremony should feel like you — fun, meaningful, and full of personality. Over the years, I’ve had the privilege of officiating close to 1,000 weddings, both traditional and modern, and no two have ever been the same.

I’ve even been known to dress up as a pirate, a magician, a game show host, or a clown — if that’s what suits the couple and the moment!

One of my favourite ways to begin a ceremony is by sharing a light-hearted story about the two of you. It’s a great way to break the ice, get your guests laughing, and set the tone for a relaxed, joyful celebration. I love creating ceremonies that feel warm, inclusive, and genuinely fun — without ever losing sight of the meaning behind the day.

Couples often tell me they feel like they’ve known me for years from our very first meeting, and I take that as the biggest compliment. I bring experience, creativity, and a genuine passion for telling your love story in a way that feels authentic and memorable. I encourage you to share as many ideas, thoughts, and inspirations as you like — this is your ceremony, after all.

Whether you’re planning something classic and elegant or completely out of the box, I’m always up for trying something new and joining in on the fun. My goal is simple: to help you create a ceremony that feels effortless, joyful, and unmistakably yours.

If you’re looking for a celebrant who’s calm, experienced, and not afraid to do things a little differently, I’d love to chat and see if we’re the right fit.

About

After 20 years and almost 1,000 weddings I cannot imagine a job I would prefer to be doing! When I meet a couple for the first time I love hearing their ideas and suggesting a few of my own for them to enjoy and remember for the rest of their lives. They love it it when I do a Welcome or the Giving Away in their language if English is not their native tongue! The most common feedback I get from my brides is "Thank you for keeping me calm" which is one of the things I pride myself on.

Packages

Exclusive Offer
Diamond package

My Diamond package includes:

  • all the legal requirements and paperwork
  • use of my Wedding Manual for ideas to help us create your ceremony - it makes it really easy for you!
  • a rehearsal (online or face-to-face)
  • on the day I come with a portable PA system, two microphones and a table and chairs for the signing.
  • I write a light-hearted story about the two of you which is always full of laughs and a great way to get the ceremony started!
  • On the day I give you a legal marriage certificate but with the Diamond package I also include the "official" marriage certificate from the NSW Registry - this is necessary if you plan to change your name.

Here are a few suggested ideas that we can include in your ceremony:

  • Having your parents come in first and making a bit of a fuss about them is a wonderful way to start the ceremony!
  • I can do a welcome or the Giving Away in another language if that is appropriate in your case. It is always very much appreciated by parents where English is not their first language.
  • The Sand Ceremony - we have three vases on the table, two filled with different coloured sand and the third one empty. After the vows I start talking about how, like the sand,  you are two individuals who are now being joined together and can never be separated.
  • Warming of the Rings - early in the ceremony the rings are passed around the audience and they are invited to each hold them for a few moments and infuse them with all their love and best wishes, before they make their way back to us for the ring ceremony.
  • The Handfasting - originally an ancient Celtic ritual where the couple hold on to each other's wrist and a cord or sash is wrapped around the two hands in a loose knot while I say the relevant words. Then the hands are slipped out of the knot and the knot is then placed in a small wooden box to remain as proof and a happy memory of the two of you "Tying the Knot"
  • Finally, I love to write stories about my couples. This normally occurs at the beginning of the ceremony and is a light-hearted look at how the two of you reached this most important moment in your lives. You will each receive a questionnaire that I send you and you complete them separately - this can be quite amusing when sometimes the couple's recollections don't exactly match ?? Quite often your guests will learn things about you that they weren't previously aware of!

My ceremonies are always a lot of fun and that's the way my couples seem to like it!

The fee for my Diamond package is $990

FAQ

I love doing special things for my couples ??. I have performed weddings in a cowboy outfit, dressed as a pirate, as an Indian magician and in a wetsuit, so no matter how unusual your request, I would be happy to do it!

I perform weddings regularly on the Central Coast and the Hunter Valley, down to Kiama and out to the Blue Mountains.

Happy to discuss weddings anywhere in Australia ??

I take care of all of the legals for you. I just need to sight your passports or photo ID and birth certificates and get you to sign a Stat Dec before the ceremony and the marriage certificates on the day.

If you have been married previously I need to see your divorce or death certificate for your previous partner before the ceremony.

NSW law requires you to lodge a Notice of Intended Marriage with your celebrant at least one month prior to your intended marriage. If your circumstances require a shortening of that time I can advise you of the processes where that may be possible.

I can give you some information to get you started, or alternatively you can use my pre-written vows if you would prefer.

November 2021

Philip officiated our wedding during uncertain times. Due to changing COVID NSW health policies we needed to reschedule our wedding date. Philip was accommodating and allowed us to change our plans with ease. Philip's calm demeanour brought emotional stability to an already chaotic wedding day. His excellent public speaking skills kept all our guests engaged. It was a perfect amalgamation of professionalism and comedy that made Philip a stand-out from all other celebrants we encountered. My partner and I felt truly lucky to have Philip service our wedding ceremony and we could not have chosen a better celebrant.

Thanks so much Nigel, It was an absolute delight to marry you and Chloe in such a beautifully different location - I have never done a ceremony at the Roslyn Packer Theatre before and i will certainly be recommending it to other couples! I hope you have a wonderful life together! All the best, Philip

October 2021

From the beginning of the planning to the end of the evening, Philip assisted us with a combination of professionalism, cheerfulness, and flexibility that allowed us to say what we felt and to have exactly the ambience we wanted. We couldn't be happier with him and will definitely be booking him for our renewal of vows in ten years!

Thanks Tom and Alex, What a joy your wedding was! I felt like part of the family from the day we met and feel that we will always remain friends. All the best for a wonderful married life. Cheers, Philip

November 2015

Philip was absolutely perfect - he responded to every email immediately, accommodated us with in person meetings, crafted a beautiful and personal ceremony, and was so amazing on the day that many of our guests commented that he was the best celebrant they'd seen.

December 2025

Philip delivered a perfect ceremony. He also accommodated a late start when we had mishap with some missing clothes which was hugely appreciated. It was also a great help that he provided a catalogue of pre-written segments to make the ceremony more tailored to our personal tastes. Overall we couldn't be happier with his service.

Thanks so much, Geoff. Your wedding is the reason I love being a marriage celebrant - sharing joyful days with lovely couples 😊 The location of your wedding was spectacular! Jenny could consider hiring out her garden for weddings! All the best for a happy life together. Cheers Philip

September 2025

When we were looking for a celebrant we wanted someone who was friendly, genuine and was able to capture our love story as if it was a feel good rom com. Philip was the perfect celebrant, he made our wedding so memorable. We were impressed with the thorough booklet he organised which helped planning the ceremony so smooth. He offered unique ideas such as hosting a sand ceremony, which we now have as a keepsake in our bedside table. He always answered our questions promptly and was available for rehearsals. We received so many compliments from our guests about how good Philip conducted the ceremony, when he told our love story he made everyone laugh at the right times. We are also very appreciative for Philip catching the ring mid air when it was accidentally dropped by the best man. Philip’s professionalism and comedic satire captivated our audience, and while our wedding can be labelled as impractically perfect, Philips form was on point. We couldn’t recommend him enough - if you want a magical wedding, Philip is your future celebrant

Do celebrants charge more for new year's eve weddings?

Wondering if there are surcharges for special dates like this.

Philip Holland Sydney Celebrant

Hi

As with any business, to each his/her own. I don't charge extra for public holidays or special days like NYE. I did one at Balmoral Beach in the afternoon of NYE and the couple invited me to join them on a boat on the harbour for their reception, watching the fireworks - it was such a joy! I think couples appreciate their celebrant going that extra personal mile ??

Do you have to belong to a church to get married there?

We love the look of some of the older cathedrals, but neither of us is religious. Would we be permitted to marry there?

Philip Holland Sydney Celebrant

Hi,

You would need to contact the church as they all have different rules but generally you would need to have a religious service performed by a priest. The exception would be if the church had been deconsecrated and was open to non-religious ceremonies.

Have a wonderful day!

All the best

If a Couple Doesn't Kiss at Their Wedding, What Else Can They Do?

I am extremely phobic of being touched, but at weddings the couple always kisses. Is it a requirement, or are there different things I can do? If so, what?

Philip Holland Sydney Celebrant

Hi,

A kiss is traditional but certainly not a requirement. Other options might be a hand fasting, where your hands are joined together with a special ribbon with your names embroidered on it. Once the fasting is completed the knot is slipped off and placed in a special box as a memento of your special day.

If the actual touching of the hands is an issue you could have a special set of silk gloves just for the purpose.

Another option is sharing a glass of wine, where you have a special goblet and you each take a sip from it.

I hope that helps,

All the best,

Philip Holland Sydney Celebrant
