OVERVIEW

My approach to ceremonies of all types is open, honest, vibrant and inclusive of all lifestyles; a ceremony free from traditions but honoring the sacredness of the event.

I love, love, love, to write and would LOVE even more to write you and your partner a personal, unique and intimate script, something that you'll look back on and remember fondly. I’ve been performing music and exhibiting art for many years and celebrancy is a beautiful extension of that, one that's close to my heart.

I’m thrilled and truly looking forward to sharing these beautiful moments with loved up couples! So do reach out and see if I'm the celebrant for you.

As an artist/illustrator I am often asked to create wedding and event invitations, order of service, portraits and print drawings for your guests to stamp with their fingerprint. I loved to be challenged and so the options of what I can do are endless. I offer MC services along with copywriting asisstance for your vows and speeches.

Let's have a chat, and if you feel I'm a good fit, then I'd love to go for a coffee or wine and get to know you and your partner.

Couples describe a celebrant who turns wedding logistics into a calm, enjoyable journey, with a warm, down-to-earth approach that feels like a trusted friend. The standout is a deeply personalised, non-traditional ceremony that reflects the couple’s story, energy, and values, while keeping the planning accessible and stress-free. Clients repeatedly note her calming presence, genuine care, and seamless coordination—she listens, guides, and crafts words that feel intimate and meaningful. Her flexibility in tricky circumstances, from neurodivergent needs to pandemic restrictions, plus a professional yet playful vibe, helps create an atmosphere where guests feel included and the day truly feels like them.

October 2025

Jolie took what I’d heard from others to be a stressful lead up to a wedding and turned it into an incredibly relaxed and enjoyable experience. She made everything so easy and accessible which was so important for me as a neurodivergent bride. I don’t think I’ve laughed that much during a wedding before and for it to be my own made it so special. She really captured the very non traditional core of both my husband and I, and our chaotic life. I never thought I’d get married or that it could possibly be the best day of my life, but Joelle was an integral part of making it my perfect day.

Joelie is kind, energetic, and so understanding. She radiates such positive energy and is always keyed in to what you want for your ceremony. She matched our energy about the ceremony, and made the ceremony so beautiful and perfect. We can't thank her enough for the time she put in prior to the ceremony, and during the ceremony.

September 2021

Joelie was our wedding celebrant in 2020 when my wife and I were able to legally marry, ten years to the day after our first commitment to each other in 2010. It was a particularly special day for us as we were able to re affirm our love for each other, in the presence of those closest to us and include our two beautiful children in the ceremony. Joelie was instrumental in making our legal ceremony just as special as we imagined it would be. She understood the depth of meaning that having a legal ceremony held for us and it showed in her conduct. From the very beginning we knew Joelie was perfect for us. She is down to earth, easy going and very friendly and relatable, while also being professional, organised and experienced in what she does. We would recommend Joelie in a heartbeat!

Thank you so very much. Being a part of your celebration was heartwarming, especially knowing that your first wedding was legally hindered. To be able to celebrate you as not just a loving couple, but as parents together, and marrying the way you always should have been able to, was so significant and I'm so happy that you chose me to be a part of it. xxx

Is it OK to ask a celebrant to wear a costume at our wedding?

Hello! I've read some responses to celebrants dressing in a matching style etc. Is it rude to ask if they wouldn't mind wearing a costume? I've read somewhere a couple got married by batman and then the obvious Elvis option.. I like the idea of an iconic character and think it would be something to remember but wouldn't want to offend anyone or make it a bad experience. TIA

Joelie Bird

Absolutely! I've been asked all sorts of things! What a fabulous concept

Do any modern couples still include the opportunity to object during a wedding ceremony?

Curious about this and how it would be done well.

Joelie Bird

I've never been asked to include this in a ceremony but it certainly could be. Personally, I would want to be sure, however, that no one was actually going to object! Purely to avoid a potentially difficult social situation.

Can we write our own ring element into our wedding ceremony?

Wondering if the ring part of our ceremony can be personalised or if it has to be what everyone else has?

Joelie Bird

You sure can. The ring exchange is not a legal part of the ceremony which means it can be tailored to suit your personalities and the style of your ceremony perfectly. It's often a nice opportunity to slip in additional rituals such as saying I Do (also not a legal requirement), a hand fasting ritual or a wabi sabi ritual. There are so many options here which makes it a very personalised part of teh service.
