If a couple can survive a bout of gastro early in the relationship, you might say it’s true love.
“Marrying my husband proved to me to me that fairy tales do come true,” says 32-year-old Petra Gran of John Graves, 31. Not least of which proof was their early trip to Mexico. “John came down with a horrible bout of gastro and it resulted in a 3am trip to the local hospital of a small town where I attempted to use as much Spanish that I knew to help him,” she explains. “I witnessed things that I’m sure couples who have been married for decades have still not witnessed.”
But not long after, things got a little more serious than a stomach bug. Petra was diagnosed with cervical cancer and as a result had to have tough discussions with John about children. “Conversations about marriage, children and each other’s desires suddenly got quite serious but I knew inside that this man would never leave my side,” says Petra. Then, when her mother suddenly passed, John was again there as her rock.
The loved-up Melbourne couple married on May 2, 2015 with an modern elegant wedding. “Our wedding theme summed up everything about us – modern, elegant and contemporary,” smiles Petra. “We celebrated with 68 friends and family at Alto Event Space on top of Melbourne’s iconic GPO building.”
