Playful twists on tradition ensured Lisa Rouhliadeff and Lucas Coe’s big day was unique to them.
Balloons over flowers, tattoos instead of rings and a picnic-style ceremony where guests could relax on the grass were just some of the unusual touches of their summer cocktail wedding.
The Sydney pair, Lisa, 30, and Lucas, 32, grew up together in the Blue Mountains, but it wasn’t until a heated argument over who was paying for gum on a trip to 7Eleven that they knew they’d met their match.
“Lucas found someone to push him outside of his comfort zone and I found someone who could pull me back to earth. And we haven’t gone a single day without speaking since that night, almost 10 years ago now,” Lisa says.
The couple wed on December 13, 2014 in front of 68 guests at Sydney’s stunning Observatory Hill Park at Millers Point.
“Our guests relaxed on blankets and enjoyed snacks and bubbly while we went through the formalities of the occasion,” Lisa says.
The Quayside Room at the Museum of Contemporary Art, a rooftop room with stunning city views, hosted the reception.

Lisa says her custom-made ivory chiffon trumpet gown was the perfect choice for her body shape. “I wanted something elegant, chic and simple that still had a little wow factor,” she says.
Guests relaxed with snacks and bubbly during the formalities.
“Every detail was methodically thought out over months,” Lisa says of her and Lucas’ wedding planning.
Lisa and Lucas were careful to scatter their speeches throughout the night so guests didn’t lose interest.
