A destination wedding was an obvious choice for this Melbourne couple after they fell in love with Queensland’s Port Douglas.
Janelle Martin, 26, and Anthony Hart, 31, had visited the popular town several times for holidays. “We had always dreamed of marrying there – how wonderful it was for this to come true,” smiles Janelle.
Sixty guests made the journey to see the pair wed on November 4, 2013 at St Mary’s by the Sea chapel followed by celebrations at Harrison’s Restaurant. The styling was elegant and simple allowing for Port Douglas’ natural surrounds to be the star of the theme.
Janelle and Anthony met at their local pub and during the following six years purchased a home and a puppy, Jemma. “Anthony then surprised me with a proposal on my 25th birthday,” explains Janelle. “He made this surprise at the Crown Metropol in Melbourne with a beautiful custom-made ring that he designed himself.”
The bride says she fell in love with Anthony’s kindness and that their relationship is unique. “Even the smallest gestures matter. Being able to not only feel the love for one another, but also the friendship we share is something that is very rare to find,” says Janelle.
Janelle’s one-shoulder fitted wedding gown featuring a button-down back was by Raffaele Ciuca, purchased in Melbourne. She accessorised with jewellery from Fletcher & Grace.
St Mary’s by the Sea chapel is situated in the heart of Port Douglas and has a huge glass altar window offering breathtaking views of the Coral Sea and rainforest clad mountains. It also features stained glass windows, traditional wooden pews and a church bell.
Dressed by Ferrari Formal Wear, Anthony wore a grey vest-and-trouser ensemble with white open collar shirt.
The couple will head to Europe in June for a belated honeymoon.
