Timeless traditions: Dasuni and Luke’s Brisbane Marriott Hotel wedding

For their July 9th, 2022 wedding at the Brisbane Marriott Hotel, Dasuni and Luke took inspiration from British royal weddings and traditional Sri Lankan ceremonies.

“I wanted to give my wedding guests an experience they would never forget,” says Dasuni. “So, I went for a cultural fusion.” The result was an incredible celebration.

Seeking a classic and timeless style, Dasuni and Luke chose the elegant and luxurious Brisbane Marriott Hotel to hold their wedding celebration for 100 guests. “I knew I wanted to be able to look back in 50 years and still love everything,” explains Dasuni of her choice of wedding aesthetic.

Surrounded by their respective wedding parties, the pair prepared for their day in the Brisbane Marriott Hotel’s spacious pre-wedding areas. Dasuni and her bridesmaids were visited by Hollywood Brides, whose expert hair and makeup artists created an elegant, understated wedding day look.

Dasuni wore a timeless, puff sleeve cream wedding gown with a romantic veil, while Luke and his groomsmen opted for classic navy suits. Dasuni’s bridemaids dressed in antique gold — a tone that was consistently used in the reception decor and floral arrangements.

A traditional ceremony was held within the grand structure of The Cathedral of St Stephen in the heart of the bustling Brisbane CBD. The couple exchanged vows surrounded by stunning stained glass windows, impossibly high ceilings, and, of course, their closest family and friends.

After the ceremony, Dasuni and Luke slipped away to explore the CBD hand-in-hand, and to capture content for their wedding video with Flare Films. Meanwhile, their guests mingled while enjoying pre-dinner drinks and canapés which were served on the second level of the Brisbane Marriott.

The main reception was held in the Grand Ballroom, and began with a precession of Sri Lankan dancers and drummers. The Grand Ballroom also perfectly accommodated a Sri Lankan blessing stage also featured, which was an important factor in the venue selection process.

When asked if she would change anything about the wedding process, Dasuni replied, “I would have had more tiers on my wedding cake, because I’m so extra!”

My inspiration for the day was the aesthetic of a British royal wedding, as well as traditional Sri Lankan village marriage ceremonies. Even Dasuni’s dress was inspired by Meghan Markle and Princess Diana! The Brisbane Marriott Hotel fit our vision perfectly with its elegant Grand Ballroom.

We went with natural makeup and an chignon for me, with a gold eye and blow out for the bridesmaids.
