Aleisha and Nathan’s intimate wedding at Clyde Creek Event Centre

Ten years after an unexpected Tinder swipe, Nathan and Aleisha proved that doing things on your own terms yields the best celebrations.

Bypassing grand public gestures for an intimate wedding in Calliope, Central Queensland, the couple crafted a day defined by authenticity, bold personal choices, and a relaxed, rustic atmosphere. With just 40 of their closest family and friends present, the day flowed seamlessly without rigid timelines or forced traditions. “It was about us,” Aleisha shares. “Everyone is there for you, and nothing else matters. We got to show the closest people in our lives just how much we love each other.”

The setting at Clyde Creek Event Centre offered the ideal open-space backdrop. After a quick pivot to position the ceremony overlooking the peaceful dam rather than the trees, guests sat together without formal aisle splits or assigned sides. Aleisha wore a statement red dress from Lara Boutique, paired with a custom handmade korowai to honour her Māori heritage, which her brother helped tie during the service. Officiated by Jo Thomas, the quick legal ceremony focused on connection rather than elaborate vows. “Jo Thomas Civil Celebrant was amazing and really brought the love and care to our ceremony,” Aleisha says. Photographer Jake from JakeyVass Media captured the moments before stepping back to give the couple crucial time alone post-ceremony. “Jake was professional, organised, and a whole vibe,” the couple note. “He managed to capture the pure essence of our day, from the small, intimate moments to the fun, crazy ones.”

Transitioning straight into the reception barn at the top of the hill, the celebration kicked into high gear with open-bar drinks, a DIY burger setup catered by the venue, and a custom lolly bar. Aleisha even put her own practical twist on the cake by styling a pair of Woolworths mud cakes, which proved to be an absolute hit with guests. David from United in Music DJs kept energy high as MC and DJ, seamlessly guiding the evening from heartfelt speeches into a bustling dance floor.

Between the effortless venue styling by Maddy and the team at Clyde Creek Event Centre and the freedom to dance the night away in a white suit, the day delivered on every promise. “Our venue made the whole day feel effortless,” Aleisha reflects. “I remember how I felt, the laughs, the nerves, and looking around at the people we love most.”
