We’re thrilled to offer our brides the chance to attend the National Trust’s Love, Desire and Riches, a fabulous exhibition celebrating 200 years of weddings.

The exhibition, which runs from 1 July 2014 to 30 September 2014 at Melbourne’s Rippon Lea House and Gardens, offers visitors an exclusive look at significant fashion pieces of wedding couture from Australia and overseas.

The exhibition’s focal piece is the magnificent pearl-encrusted, ivory silk Valentino gown worn by Princess Marie Chantal of Greece at her wedding to Pavlos, Crown Prince of Greece. With a 4.5 metre lace train and a value of over $350,000, this amazing dress required over 25 dressmakers, 12 different kinds of lace and took more than four months to complete.

“The Valentino gown is spectacular but there are many other beautiful, intricate designs on show, including rare pieces from one of Australia’s most prominent contemporary fashion designers Akira Isogawa and much loved Australian designer Collette Dinnigan,” said National Trust Victoria Cultural Collections Curator, Elizabeth Anya-Petrivna.

Scott and Charlene's wedding was a seminal television moment in Australia - as was the bride's gown!
The exhibition also features the iconic wedding dress worn by Kylie Minogue (above) during her wedding to Scott (Jason Donovan) on hit television show Neighbours and Minogue’s wedding dress during her appearance on television show Kath and Kim as Epponnee Rae. Well-known Australian designers, including Alex Perry’s wedding dress design for Kyly Clarke, wife of Australian cricket captain Michael Clarke, will also be on display.

“Romance is never without drama and the Love, Desire and Riches collection will reveal just that, with all three themes embodied through a range of inspiring gowns worn on the silver screen,” said Elizabeth.

Fashion enthusiasts, collectors and hopeless romantics can explore the wide-ranging collection of wedding gowns drawn from timeless moments in literature and film, alongside renowned designer pieces, and real life love stories of the men and women of Melbourne.

In addition to the costume display, the exhibition will also provide an evocative atmosphere with delectable treats and flower displays embodying a true wedding ambiance. It’s wedding heaven!

It could be a gown worn by a celebrity or royalty or something closer to your heart, your mother’s wedding gown – or, even, your own! Remember to tell us why.
