Wedding venues come in all styles and sizes, but some couples are drawn to those with a real history. Nestled deep in the heart of the Dandenong Ranges – just 50 minutes from the hustle and bustle of the city – is one of Melbourne’s most romantic historical wedding venues.

Poet’s Lane was originally a private residence, built almost 100 years ago, by families who planted some of the European trees that now create breathtaking Autumnal displays of colour.

The property was later used by the Royal Children’s Hospital, for children recovering from long illness. It was these children who, in the 1930s, planted the magnificent oak tree that now towers over the lush gardens.

Later, the buildings were used as a health retreat and then as various restaurants, with motel-style accommodation being added in the 1960s.

For how long were you engaged?

But it was in 1995 that the beautiful buildings of Poet’s Lane found their true calling, as a stunning wedding venue.

The property has been renovated with meticulous attention to detail, seeking to preserve the history and charm of the past while creating a truly elegant wedding venue that is as convenient and comfortable as it is beautiful.

Kimberley Williams, from Poet’s Lane, said the venue has a flexibility that many couples appreciate.

“ We have hosted everything from traditional events to the more rustic, woodland and glamour themes, and every wedding was a beautiful as the next.”

“We are also very flexible in size and can comfortably cater to anything from 80 guests to 180.”

Kimberley says while the charm and breathtaking scenery of Poet’s Lane might first prompt a couple to inspect the venue, it is the convenience that also really appeals.

Poet’s Lane offers the convenience of everything being in the one location. From the moment the guests arrive, they are able to sit back, relax and enjoy the ceremony and reception.

“And our onsite motel if fantastic for those wanting to celebrate without the worry of having to drive home, so they are able to enjoy the entire experience without any hassles.”

Kimberley said the history of the venue also appeals to many couples.

“People love the tranquility and the magnificent forest surrounds. There is definitely something magical about getting married in the middle of the forest.”
