We love a plunging neckline, a thigh-skimming hemline, and a daring, sheer wedding gown fabric. That said, there’s a new trend on the bridal scene—or should we say an old trend making its way back to the limelight. We asked Jenna from d’Italia Couture to tell all on The Modest Bride trend.

Have you noticed an increase in brides wanting more modest designs?

“Yes, there has definitely been a noticeable trend of brides leaning towards more modest designs. Elements like longer sleeves, full-length gowns, drop waist traditional corsets, shawls and longer detachable capes or skirts are fine-tuned with more sleek, contemporary silhouettes. Traditional bridal fabrics such as French Cord Lace, Textured Brocades, Jacquards, and Satin glossy silks are blended together to create timeless elegance.”

The rise of modesty in bridalwear doesn’t mean boring or old-fashioned—far from it. Picture timeless styles like drop-waist corsets and detachable capes (hello, drama!) paired with modern tailoring. It’s all about combining tradition with today’s aesthetics.

What makes a “modest” wedding dress?

“Features of a modest wedding dress in modern trends we are seeing are higher necklines, longer sleeves, full-length gowns, ball gowns, higher covered backs, classic silhouettes like princess lines, drop waistlines and very clean minimal style lines.”

High necklines, long sleeves, and covered backs bring a regal vibe that wouldn’t feel out of place on a red carpet. Think Meghan Markle’s iconic wedding look, but with extra polish and less chance of wardrobe mishaps.

Are there celebrity wedding gowns in this space your brides seek inspiration from?

“Main celebrities brides have been referenced are Priyanka Chopra Jonas, Joey King, Hailey Bieber, and Barbara Palvin.”

When royalty and fashionistas are doing it, you know it’s a trend! From Priyanka’s opulent lace to Hailey Bieber’s classic but modern gown, brides are borrowing modest design cues from celebs who prove that covered-up can still be captivating.

Are there ways for brides to have their cake and eat it too with this trend?

“There are definitely ways to incorporate modest elements with a more contemporary look. For example, having a second mini reception dress to change into, capes, lace bolero jackets, and shawls have been popular for coverage for the ceremony and to be able to take it off, revealing a second look. Other options are detachable skirts, sleeves, and off-the-shoulder straps.”

Ah yes, the beloved second look—perfect for when you want to serve both tradition and sass on your big day. Jenna’s ideas for detachable skirts and sleeves mean brides can switch from demure to daring without needing a complete outfit overhaul. Because who says you can’t have it all?
