When Kevin Taylor broke his leg 13 years ago doctors found the worst case of Reflex Sympathetic Dystrophy (RSD) they’d ever seen. The disease, which stops regrowth and repair, turned a routine bone-break into a life-altering disaster.
“The most remarkable thing about Kevin is that he never complained, despite what happened to him” said his friends after, instead of a quick recovery, Kevin had to have his leg amputated.
Bound to a wheelchair, Kevin remained resilient in the face of adversary, and so was his Texan soulmate, Kim Didway.
“I came in, he turned around and was just grinning from ear to ear. There was a connection immediately,” recounts another friend. When the pair met, the disability was invisible to her, and the two decided to embark on a journey together and get married.
Endless days and months of secret physiotherapy followed as Kevin practiced walking on a new prosthetic leg. While she planned the big day, he was busy planning a big surprise.
