The cutting of the wedding cake is one of the highlights of any wedding reception – if you like cake, that is!

Increasingly, couples are opting for wedding cake alternatives such as macaron and cupcake towers and Croquembouche, while others are forgoing the sweet route altogether and opting for something savoury, which explains the rise – and rise – of cheese wheel cakes.

While confections of fruit, sponge and marzipan once took centrestage, these days couples are just as likely to ‘build’ their cake from flavours such as brie or camembert.
