Can the videographer also just take a video of the entire ceremony start to finish?

Can the videographer take a video of the ceremony on a tripod but also do a edited mash up of the entire day? Or will this greatly increase the price? I love the edited videos, but would also like to remember our vows etc in their entirety. Thanks

Hi Sam,

I'm aware of some video companies that film only snippets of the ceremony so you will need to check. However there are others that will film the entire ceremony with multiple cameras therefor allowing you to see a version of the entire ceremony/vows etc in it's entirety. We aim to be as flexible and reactive to the clients requests and our pricing is reactive to those needs and budgets whilst also ensuring high quality.

Yes, you can absolutely have both, and honestly most couples want exactly what you're describing. On the day we'll have a camera locked off on a tripod running the whole way through your ceremony, capturing your vows, the ring exchange and the kiss in full and uncut, while a second camera roves for the closer, more cinematic angles. That tripod camera is your safety net and your keepsake all at once.

The big thing to get right is the audio, because a wide tripod shot from the back picks up wind, kids and the guy clearing his throat in row three. We pop a small mic on your celebrant and often a second on the groom, so your vows come through clean even if a breeze rolls in. If you're outdoors anywhere around South East Queensland, that matters a lot, especially for the coastal and Sandstone Point ceremonies where the wind off the water can really play up in the afternoon.

For delivery, you'd typically get two things: the short edited highlight film that's all emotion and music, and then a separate full-length ceremony edit that plays start to finish so you and the family can relive every word. Some studios include the full ceremony in their standard package and others treat it as an add-on, so the honest answer on price is just to ask each videographer directly how they handle it, because it varies a fair bit.

One last tip from the editing chair: we cut everything in-house ourselves, so when we film your ceremony we already know how we want to weave that full-length footage and the highlight film together. It's worth asking whoever you book whether they edit their own work or send it off, because the person behind the camera knowing exactly how it'll be cut later genuinely shows in the final result. Congratulations and enjoy the planning.

This can certainly be done, however it will depend from videographer to videographer and what equipment they have etc. It's definitely somethign we're able to do, and can be included as part of a custom package.

We feel that any good Wedding Cinematographer should offer you a full edit of your Wedding (including Ceremony and Speeches uninterrupted) as well as a shorter highlights video to showcase the best and most beautiful scenes from the day.  If you ever come across a vendor who offers you any less than that, well, we'd strongly suggest asking them what limitations they're facing because it comes down to either a lack of skill or a lack of hardware- and in either scenario you deserve to be fully informed!

I always give my clients a video of the main wedding film highlights and a video of just the ceremony by itself with wireless microphones. This way you and pick and choose what you want to watch.

Hi Sam, It depends on the style of video the company produces and the types of cameras used. In our packages we give you a full edited version of your whole wedding as well as the highlights. Every company is different in what they offer so be sure to ask them when looking for quotes.

Hi Sam

The videographers usually capture the entire ceremony and you get it in the long version. If your package includes highlights as well, you will have snippets of the ceremony in the highlights.

Hope this helps!

I film ceremonies with two cameras, but always run a strategically placed GoPro which records from a few minutes prior to the brides arrival right through to the end. Sometimes I use this as reference or to time align the video from the other two cameras. It makes for a nice safety net and I am happy to provide it on USB in its entireity for my clients but typically don't edit it.

Modern weddings films are shot on DSLR cameras not 'video cameras' (Thankfully)! We usually use 3-5 cameras at different angles. Thus, your whole ceremony is captured. The skill comes in the edit of telling your story, selecting the right angles, the right music etc. The Highlight film is a phenomenal product, but we always offer extended films, like documentary edits you can purchase before or after your wedding. Talk to your preferred videographer and discuss your options. Great that you have opted for film you wont regret it. ;)
