How do venues cater to children and teens?

Hi Becca! While all venues will vary in how they cater to children or teens, its important to think about what you need for your guest list. Here at Leonda By The Yarra in Melbourne we have a separate children's menu which includes mocktails on arrival for the little ones, and we offer a discounted rate for teenagers. In addition, we have activity packs of colouring books, pencils and small toys which we place out for children 10 and under. At the end of the day, you should always ask your venue what they will and will not provide so that if you want to offer something in addition, you have plenty of time to organise it. We have a special kids menu for you to choose from and we include drinks int eh $25 charge for children. Teenagers who are having the adults menu are not charged the beverage package price. We charge $10pp for their drinks on top of the menu cost.

Our functions pack cater for all ages as our food selection mainly consists of canapés. Some of them are priced per item and some per platter. The reason why some of them are priced per item is simply because we want to give you the flexibility to choose what you wish to have on your function day. It is even easier for us to offer you a mocktail and we can do a pre-selection prior to your function if you wish.

In regards to the xbox, if you are hiring the whole venue for your wedding, we do have a TV which you can plug it in to.

Children menu available for 12 years and under. Teens are adult meals unless prior requests.

Hi Becca, at The Grand Pacific Hotel we have a choice of 6 meals for kids (5-13) and the teenagers have an adults menu. We have in the past organized a kids area. We can also arrange a gaming setup in our smaller function room which is also your for the night.

We find that our clients quite like the children to attend the Ceremony then mostly arrange a nanny service during the Reception. We have access to a Nanny service.

We can certainly accommodate children and teens. Depending what package you go with, we can have a separate menu for the children and teens or have items on the buffet to better suit them. We have an area in the hotel where children/teens are able to play the Xbox as well as a separate area for younger children whom may need to have a sleep. Mocktails and any other beverages can be organised for them. We can cater to your needs, so if you have any other ideas, just let us know.

Special arrangements can and should easily be made to accommodate children of all ages. Most importantly, they need entertaining and feeding! Our venues have spaces where they can retreat to, and suitably qualified child minding staff can be arranged if required. It's definitely best to provide them with various activities that will entertain them. You also should not pay exorbitant prices for them. Teenagers would normally receive an adult meal but be charged less because they would not be provided with alcohol. Those aged roughly 4-12 years should receive a simpler meal that they will enjoy usually for around $25, while those younger may be charged even less for a simpler meal and those who are not fed should not be charged anything (even if a high chair is used). Most importantly, children should be served one course ahead of the adults, as you don't want to keep them waiting!

At Taronga Centre, we understand the importance of having all your family attend your special day. To ensure that children can enjoy each moment, we offer specialised and discounted packages based on age and dietary requirements. Our tables are set allowing space for high chairs or prams, and younger guests are among the first to be served from a menu catering to children's particular tastes. Children between the ages of 0 and 4, who don't require a meal, can attend free of charge.

Narooma Golf Club recently catered for a wedding that included 157 adults and 19 children. Our children's menu is $20 per head (up to the age of 12) but if slightly older they can also choose from this menu which includes a choice of 5 main meals eg:chicken tenders, chips & salad, chicken nuggets and chips, Roast dinner with veg, spag bol or fish & chips all followed with ice cream and topping. The children were all seated on 2 separate tables that were close to the toilets and dance floor. The biggest hit on the night was the photo booth. Apart from playing games on their phones/ipads(we have free Wi-Fi) the photo booth with its dress ups kept all the children entertained (as well as the adults)

For younger children its a good idea to include colouring in books as well
