How to choose a wedding location?

Happy to go interstate or international!

Hi Bride

Selecting a wedding venue can be difiicult. Everyone has a great offer and everyone will tell you they are the best. I think the most important thing is to go to the venue and have a good look for yourself. Meet the people who will be co-ordinating the event for you. Some venues are happy to let you trial a meal that you would offer your guests. A good operator will be able to look at your whole day and can sometimes offer some great advice and money saving tips. Like us at Belvoir, we have been doing this for 20 years, so we do have a fair idea of what works and what doesn't. Look at the time of year and day you want to get married and go to the venue to see what it looks like at that time of day. Will it comfortably host all of the guests you want or will they be packed in like sardines. The real fun of your reception is when you get up from the table and want to dance. After all its about having fun and sometimes some pretty cheeky games. You want lots of space and somewhere just outside that will accommodate those that need a breath of fresh air without the risk of flling off a balcony.

The ability to cater for a mixture of cultural needs is also important. Has the venue succesfully hosted weddings of varying cultures and have they been able to cater for any unique dietry requirements?

At Belvoir we have succesfully hosted weding for people from different walks of life, with different budgets and unique needs. Our venue is an ideal location and the venue offers facilitites for different numbers of guests and spaces for ceremonies and receptions all in the one location. Check out our website, but better still why not give us a call and if possible come and meet with us.

Any ideas of places to elope?

Well of course it depends on how much you want to spend and the time of year you're getting married.

If you want to stay in WA then there are many romantic B&B's down south that make for the perfect hide-away. This time of year the spring flowers are out and with the many wineries, chocolatiers and cheese factories there is wlways plenty to do

If travel is on your mind then Santorini would have to be at the top of the list. Set in tranquil turquiouse waters of a caldera, the volume of hotels and hidden beaches would have to be a place worthy of consideration. The weather is perfect and it makes for great honeymoon photos.

Are lunch times weddings a good option and any thoughts on it or will guests think it's weird?

Lunchtime weddings are becoming more and more popular and there is no stigma attached to having one at this time. For many getting child care is easier during the day than at night making it easier for couples to attend. Some venues offer different rates for a lunch time over an evening reception. The best thing to do is to ring around and see who is offering the best deal. That doesn't mean the cheapest but the best value and quality.

Are many venues open over the Christmas/New Year period? Will it change the price of my wedding?

Only on public holidays as there are wage requirements that must be taken into account. Aty Belvoir we are closed for Xmas Day & Boxing Day

Are many venues open over the Christmas/New Year period?

I am from overseas and my family can pretty much only come to Australia June-August or around Christmas. We're wanting a wedding in Newcastle so are worried about the weather June-August being cold, wet, windy and not a great time for people to explore Australia at its best. This pretty much leaves the Christmas period. Of course this is subject to availability of venues but I wonder if generally they all close down or stay open over that period. Thanks!

We are closed for Xmas Day & Boxing Day only

what is your response to people saying weddings are overpriced?

That would depend on so many factors. For instance in some cultures if a wedding does not follow a set format it could be insulting to parents and family, and in other cases of course some people spend a fortune, because they can. I think its up to the individual to decide what is affordable and what is realistic.

How far in advance does your venue book out?

We are already taking booking for 2019. However there are dates that may still be available. Most wedding venues book out anywhere up to two years in advance.

Call us to find out what your dates are and whether we have any spots available.

whats the price difference between a weekend and week day wedding?

Do most venues have a discount?

We are offering at the moment ½ price ceremony hire on a week day including Friday,  that’s all

if i have a dry wedding will people leave early to go get drinks?

It depends on your attendees. If it's for cultural or religious reasons, people are more likely to be mindful and understanding. If it's a matter of budget then perhaps consider a cash bar where they still have the option to have alcohol. Otherwise, think and plan for some entertainment to keep your guests busy! At the end of the day, it is your wedding and you can do whatever that makes you happy!

At Belvoir, we can accommodate a cash bar and provide a non-alcoholic beverage package to cater for dry weddings.

how does a lunchtime wedding work? like what times are we talking?

Lunchtime weddings are usually set to start arount 12 noon. We can be flexible either way and they would usully wrap up around 5 - 6pm.

What should I consider when looking for my wedding venue?

I'm about to start looking for my wedding venue. What are some things that I need to consider when searching for the perfect venue?

Picking your wedding venue is so important. It sets the tone and it essential to realizing your vision. You need to make sure you know what you want so that you know what you're looking for. Then you need to break it down for yourself; budgets, is it at a convenient location, is it already booked on your selected date, capacity, layout, restrictions, parking, facilities, and caterer.

How far in advance should I book my wedding venue?

I don't want to miss out on my dream venue. So, how far in advance should I make the booking?

Between 6 - 18 months is best. This will give the wedding planning a decent amount of time and make it less stressful for you! Communicate with your venue and clarify what you have envisioned.

At Belvoir, we work with brides to ensure we do everything we can to make the day extra special!
